I know some guys think its a sin but I decided to buy the dealer available wood inserts for my99 impreza and I'm pleased with the results along with a momo wooden gear **** it improves the bland plasticky feel of the car no end. Only problem is there are no official veneer parts for the doors especially the electric window switch surrounds, and gearbox..
Tried the sheeting looks blue peter badgeish
Took it to a interior guy wanted to charge me £380 for the lot.
Any alternatives out there...

Cheers for your time

Hi,

I must be as unfashionable as you - I've been thinking about the wood interior. The only thing that's stopped is, you've guessed it, the lack of trim for the electric windows and gear shift surround! Somehow it just doesn't look complete...

Anyway, I may bite the bullet and go for it. May I ask how much your dealer charged? What they told me seemed a bit excessive...

Hi there David,
The centre panel £40
Radio panel £40
Side ducts £25
Dial surround £55.

Lets know how much you were quoted
I am trying to find out were they had the parts coated as I as I said have been quoted a lot more...

All the best

Adem,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I can't find the Subaru parts/accessories brochure where I got the prices. With VAT and fitting (which I seem to recall was quoted at around £60), the whole lot seems a lot more than the price you've got. Are those prices with or without VAT and fitting?

Howdidodi David
These prices are exclusive of vat and to fit was about another ton, which is quite bit, but if you think about the work done as they are replacement parts, it isn't that bad..

Cool

A ton to fit these custom made overpanels? You can do this yourself if you are careful.

I transfered the CARBON FIBRE interior panels from my previous wrx to my sti. It's straighforward, you just have to be patient and careful. The panels fit down with a bit of double sided trim fixing tape. Clean the surface you are going to attach it to with some meths first.

It was well worth doing, the CARBON FIBRE bits really make the car look a lot less bland, as you would expect with CARBON FIBRE bits. Have fun with your Rover, sorry, Walnut interiors, I'm sure it will be as much a talking point as my CARBON FIBRE stuff!

Moray
(Who was kidding about the wood stuff, honest )

(I wonder if subliminal CARBON FIBRE suggestion really works... )

Been there it's ok simple cut veneer that you apply with a hair drier how it will look I don't know but I'll try it, also do the carbon and will be doing brushed aluminium,

should arrive on Saturday, I'll keep you posted.

Adem,

Sounds sort of interesting... but stick-on as opposed to replacement parts? I assume from your first posting that you've had the "proper" bits fitted and the stuff you're awaiting delivery on Saturday is for the window switches, gear surround, etc? I hope they match! But please do post your findings - your opinion will help me decided which way to jump!

Dissapointed I am with the trim I recieved it just sticks on the top veneer that looks only slightly better than the do it yourself jobs, I was looking for the electric window surrounds it came in two pieces and dosn't wrap round the sides of the surround.
I have since called and will be wanting my money back, back to the drawing board....

Just an idea ,but for all those with five doors, it might look good with perhaps a wooden exterior, like a morris traveller.

I was also thinking of using old matchsticks and a tube of superglue for that genuine wood effect but the time factor just got in the way. heh, heh, heh, go on laugh.......
