Default centre guage pod fitting - can't remove dash!

I'm trying to remove the cubby hole space in order to fit my centre gauge pod but no matter how much I pull it, it just won't come off and I don't want to break it.

I've removed the 2 screws inside the cubby hole space and just in case removed the 2 screws holding the cup holder. Are there any more? like under the catch maybe.

I've done a search but most have said they just yanked it and it came off - mine just refuses to budge!

Any help?

Usually the plastic has to be cut above the vents to remove it.

Didn't have to cut the plastic on mine....what year is the car?....Mine was 99,and the tray was a s.o.b. to get off...the reason is that it's retained by two plastic lugs, and in my case(probably all cases)...by some double sided tape which makes it feel like it's never coming off. It needed a large amount of force applied for some time before the tape gave up enough to let go...
The two plastic lugs are at the sides of the tray sticking out to the left and the right,on the front face of the tray if you see what I mean...just before the air vents......they go behind the trim of the dash and thats it...
Good luck!...

Two plastic clips, one either side of the air vents, they are the push into place/ pull like hell to remove type.

If you can remove the vents, i couldn't, you may be able to prise the back while you get it out.

as they say have a little faith and give it a big pull.

Eddie

ps don't blame me if you break it, the ones above told you to do it first, blame them.

Hi All

See if you actually remove the air vent's ( which is a c u n t in it's own) it actually makes the removel of the top part easier . Fine blade flat screwdriver to prise out the vent's is required though

This means that you can get your 2 hands in and give it a right good yank ( Parden the Pun).

Cheers Dougie

I'll give it another go tonite. Need to get it done along with a few other jobs in time for Japfest.

I had a go at getting the vents out but I didn't want to mark them. The neighbours think I'm mad trying to pull the dash apart!

I couldn't believe the effort required to get the b****r out the first time...when I removed the gauges and put it back to original spec it was easy.. the tape was no longer having any effect...
Two things I found that helped were to pull like hell on the catch for the tray..and to tilt the tray forward slightly....not too far or it will be damaging the tray...this (once it was off and I could see what had been going on) seems to help break the adhesion of the tape...
GOOD LUCK!!

Finally just got it off - right bugger to move.

One last point though, those that fitted oil temp sensors above piston 3 and removed the plug what size allen is it. Want to see if I can find a socket that fits it and use a breaker bar.

ta.

You just need to be a bit brutal with it as the spring which holds the lid on is wider that the hole it comes out off and there are a few plastic lugs round the side of it.

It will come out with a bit of force.
