Default Door Cards

Thought I'd ask in here as didn't get a reply in the ICE forum.

What are the differences between the Bug and Blob front door cards and are they inter-changeable? The reason I ask is that I've fitted some new speakers in my Bug but it has the stupid door cards where the speaker cover is angled back in 2/3s up. Meaning that I'm not going to the get lower part of the card onto the door properly.

The Blob appears to have a different speaker cover which doesn't cut back into the card so aggressively. So do they fit across years (I presume so) and does anyone know what diameter speaker fits within the round speaker cover? I've fitted 6.5" speakers. The issue with the Bug is the external clearance of the speaker cover, not the diameter per se.

Pretty sure they are interchangeable mate

Did you put the actual speaker cover over your new speakers as that won't work they have to be bare

Sure last time I did mine i had to trim the rim around the door card it's the but that sticks out behind the door speaker cover

Hth

Yeah speakers fitted but I could tell just by looking at the cards that they weren't going to fit. I trimmed all the protuding plastic from the inside of the card with a Dremel. I can just about pop the bottom of the card on but it's clearly squeezed tight against the speaker which no good. I can leave the bottom undone but then the cards will just rattle and it's less than ideal.

I have these cards:

Idiotic design where the top 3rd is stepped into the door. It could be that if they didn't have the indent and just carried on straight, above the speaker, that they may fit. Biggest problem is that with card on, I can't tell exactly by how much it fouls the speaker and therefore how much extra clearance I need.

These later ones don't appear to cut in quite so agressively, although that may be an illusion. The question then though is what diameter is the circular speaker enclosure?

Otherwise I'm going to have to cut some doorcards up to ascertain the exact clearance issue and then modify them with fibreglass. Which is a last resort.

Ah your speaker shape is different to the blobs

Did you use mdf as a spacer? It might be too thick

Best to buy blob door cards and go from there

They are the same shape as a hawk

I've just done mine in my hawk using 6.5 at the fronts with plastic spacers bought from the states and the cards went on without trimming anything

That's a great help. So do your speakers fit "inside" the circular enclosure? I guess they must. Could you tell me which speakers you fitted, so that I can compare the mounting depth with mine and do some calculations?

Yes, I have an MDF baffle. Too small at 18mm....but I can fix that easily enough. Need about 21mm I think.
