Default Insurance problem...........

I've just had my renewal through from LV. I thought i'd go on all the usual suspects (Confused, Compare the market etc). I was typing in that i have 15 years no claims because i knew it's around that number but i thought i'd double check on my renewal document. That states:
- 79.5% no claims discount for 9 year(s) (the maximum)
If i put the 15 years i do have in i get quotes of around £430 but if i stick in 9 years i get quotes in excess of £450. I know it's no a huge amount but it's the principle. What can i do?

9 years is the maximum recognised by most insurers anyway hence why when you fill in your details for a quote it stops at 9+ years for ncb

Shouldn't your current insurance company hold the correct figure? I.e whatever you had with them at start, +1 year.

If you have been with them 6 years for instance, and had 9 when you joined with them, they'd know it was 15. If that makes sense!

I would've though Data protection act would hold them to it.

Hi Brun,

Most Insurers operate a maximum NCB level of some kind, which usually reflects where their NCB discount scale stops.

Some will state 9+ years, some will state 5+ years upon their renewal/NCB documents.

If you're convinced that you should have 15 years NCB you should proceed on that basis, as whilst their systems will stop at the 9+ years you would be able to count how many years you had been on 9 years for (ie. you've been on 9+ years for 6 years would equate to the 15 years) and can contact them for a bespoke NCB letter (written by a human, rather than generic from a system).

LV are a really good Insurer and would be helpful with this.

If you're covered with them directly (LV Direct) their customer care number is 0800 232 1404, give them a call and they'll get this resolved for you. Alternatively, if you're covered via one of their Broker brands (LV=ABC, or LV=Highway) you should contact your broker and they will be able to organise this for you.

I know it's only £20, but it's £20.00 better off in your pocket and once you've done this you'll be able to keep on top of this every year to make sure your NCB reflects your record.

Kind regards

Tony

P.S. If you're still stuck after trying this, PM me your contact details and i'll be able to point you in the right direction
