Question

Dont wish to sound stupid, but if I wasnt a "petrolhead" I may not know that the car supermarket scoobs were brought in from europe.

So when I come to insure it do I just say "I bought it in the UK?" or do I say its a euro import or what???

someone must have done this

cheers

Hi m8
I'm having a prob identifying a car at present. My ins co will not insure any import (jap or euro). I'm looking at a motor that is debadged, FSSH but first service was in Northern Ireland. Also on V5 first registration was 1999 but car manufactured in 1998. I don't know if its a Euro car or UK. Any idea how I can find out?

And in answer to your question the insurance co will use any reason to weasel out of a claim so if you say UK, they will not pay out if they find out different.
Cheers

Oh I know about insurance weaseling(6 month battle - just won!)

Anyway, on the phone i ve said "Buying it in the car supermarket but know they source them from Holland"

So what about all the other people who buy focuses etc from Motorpoint and the like???

The Tesco website - my most likely insurer dont appear to even ask, infact they seem the least thorough insurance questionaire ever. odd.

hi m8
strangest thing is hpi & my ins co have no record of this car reg. I've emailed DVLA as the V5 I've seen for the motor is genuine so must be a clerical error??
Cheers

The reason for this is that the DVLA between mainland UK and Northern Ireland are completely separate and do not have any links. My car is registered and taxed in N.I. still because I would need to reregister it and get a new log book to do this in England. You need to telephone the DVLA office in N.I. - I think it is in Ballymena but directory inquiries will tell you.
