Default insurance headache !!!

finding it very hard to insure my scooby ive had it 2 months now anf reason i was insured for that period was cos i swapped it from another car for remainder of the policy. now im searching for qoutes to renew for another year and no one will touch me unless its s tupid money. They say because i have only owned the car for a short period and they want at 1-2 years exp with the car to insure me. which is stupid because how can i gain exp in this car if no one will insure me !!! i am nearly 31 have 1 years no claims bonus and the car is only a 1999 uk 2000 turbo completley standard!! CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP OR ADVISE ME OR RECCOMEND A GOOD INSURANCE COMPANY THAT CAN HELPPP!! I WILL FOREVER BE IN YOUR DEBT THANKS.

Get it as a named driver is your bet best. Will work out cheaper for the next couple of years whilst you get experience in it. I'm 24 have an 03 blob, my mrs is 22 and we get it for £800 with my dad as the main driver. That's with admiral

What Insurance companies have you tried though?? Hopefully not go compare etc... I was in the same boat as you I'm 28 with 7 ync bonus and i was looking at a new mortgage to get Insured. There are a lot of insurance comps on this forum who are VERY competitive in prices. I now have a quote that is better than what I'm paying now and I'm driving a golf!

Greenlight insurance
A - plan
Keith Michaels (speak to Gary!)

I'm sure there are more I just can't think at 9am..... But any of these will be a good shout. Should keep you busy! Check the advertising banners on the forum... And posting in the insurance section might get you more help.... ;-)

to be honest, i said i hadnt bought the car yet, thinking it would give them inspiration to go cheaper for me, try and move it to a different postcode of a relative (maybe a less criminal area) then say it parks at your postcode overnight, i live in quite a **** area, when it was insured and overnight parked at my dads it was £726, cost an extra £100 to have it parked in my postcode overnight, i thought was worth the £100 in case some little ****** tries to have fun in it one night and plasters it into a ditch for me lol
anyways, thats was with my old man having 9 yrs no claims, and me with use of another vehicle (company car inc s,d + p) and less than 5000 miles annually on the scooby
might be worth a try?

Your main issue is only 1yncb, I'm 22 and have no issue insuring my car, did find adding mum and gf as named drivers lowered it, I'm with elephant

I would say that you have had experience with other performance cars. Name a few to them.
My insurance company asked me what my previous cars were as I had just bought my Impreza . Over the years I had an MR2 turbo and a Supra , so this really helped me.
Try this?

I insure mine through Tesco, iv had it since I was 23, I'm now 31 and no one has been able to get close to what I pay. Give them a try. Unfortunately as already said 1 years NCD is what's holding you back.

No worries mate, no one has come close to Tesco prices in 7 years, never had any issues with them. I tried a plan and Keith micheals over the years but the only way they could beat was in a one off payment which I don't have!!

Is your dad the owner of the car though? Does he drive it mainly and more so than you or your Mrs?

If not, it's basic insurance fraud and there are insurers on here who can and will use this information to refuse payouts etc.

I know it happens, how do you think all these young un's have nice cars and pay for the insurance? But the idea is you don't boast or encourage such activities on a supposedly grown up forum for perfomance cars.

To the OP, I genuinely suggest you DO NOT try the above advice or any other "tweaks" such as postcode changes to lower the price. If it did come to claim time (whether it be your claim or a claim against you), the insurers check in order to try wrangle out cost on their part.

That's why everything on my policy for example is 100% legit.

For the record I'm with Gary Moulson through Keith Michaels. I'm 28, 3 points, 1 non fault accident, 5 years protected NCB and renewal was £575.

Don't you mean your dad has a 03 blob? (as COB said)

If it's your car, and the logbook is in your name, you're wasting £800... as you are not insured... the policy is void.

Yes indeed, low level of NCB + less than a year's ownership means the usual specialists may struggle.
