Default Question for those in insurance.

I am furious! My wife just took out a new insurance policy on her 1.4 Pug 308. I had been added to the policy and for the two of us it was only £230. Here's the problem. I reminded her 1 day into the policy that almost 4 years ago I picked up 3 points and a £60 fine for using my phone whilst driving in a 30mph. Doing the right thing she called them up to tell them. Because of this information they want £124 extra to insure! That's crazy!

Now we either, pay £124 extra, pay a £50 admin fee to remove me off the policy or pay a fee for cancelling the policy in the cooling off period!

Is £124 ridiculous for a 4 year old offence?

It certainly sounds excessive, but some insurers class CU8's as bad as drink driving.

Well I trust your opinion mate. I just thought £124 was extreme to say the least!

The annoying thing is I was sitting at a junction, not even moving! Is the code CU80 the same if you were in a 30,40 or even motorway?

Yep, standard code.

£124 on such a small premium is a hell of a lot, possibly worth a call to a manager?

Thanks for the advice mate. She will call them in the morning for clarification but I have a feeling she'll bottle it when it comes to asking to speak to the manager.

Unbelievably this gets worse! It turns out they got the figures wrong yesterday. The cost to add my points to the policy is now £190!!!!! That's nearly doubling the price of the cover for 3 points nearly 4 years ago! They also want £81 to cancel the policy. That's the best option at present! Absolute daylight robbery! STAY AWAY FROM PERFORMANCE DIRECT!!
