Has anyone had any experince of up-grading the brakes e.g changing from 2-pots to 4-pots and do insurance companies increase their premiums? (the car should be safer so infact they should reduce their charges :-))

i went from 2-pots to my 4-pot movit (basically Porker 911 GT3 brake setup) and it did not increase my premium, but this is possibly down to the fact that my policy is loaded due to the other mods, plus it's a jap import.

 

I asked my insurers Greenlight that question, and was told that if I used subaru parts there would be no increase in premium.

 

I think you will find that alot of insurance companies will give you an increased premium for up-graded brakes.

Thier reasoning behind this has something to do with the way you will drive once they are fitted,higher speeds,braking later,so on and so forth.

I suppose theft maybe comes into it too,everybody likes to see big disks behind the alloy!

Didnt have a problem when i replaced the std 4pots with Brembo 4pots, the insurance just accepted it as being safer as it stopped the car quicker

Insurers should look at the overall risk and see that professionally installed brake upgrades should make the car safer and thus shouldn't look to increase premiums.

However, better brakes usually cost more and an insurer would be expected to pick up the bill if the car was nicked/written off etc.. So why shouldn't they increase the premium ?!

You could still plough it into a bus queue and cause millions of £'s worth of damage !!

If there's an increase in premium then fair enough, but it shouldn't be much !! I'd not be happy with any more than an additional £50 to pay.

Unfortunately, many insurers see it as a great opportunity to get more brass in, and can often take the pi55 !!

A plan with Axa. Std Scooby 4 pots to AP 4 pots

Loading of 10%, which increased my insurance by about £120 - the gits

 

Changed mine from std to godspeed big 335mm and i was told by the insurance co that they "do not charge for making your car safer sir". i think he should be selling suits not insurance tho!!

But what if say you replaced disks and pads and they were cheaper than OEM Subaru but were still upgraded brakes with better performance?? Just wondered on your thoughts in that scenario?
