Default Classic Sti Insurance at 21?

Hi all

I know there are lots of these threads on here, but after having owned the Terzo from not long after I turned 20, I didn't think insuring an Sti of similar age would be much of a problem...although obviously knew it would be more expensive.

I replaced my Terzo with a Focus ST170, and after owning a Focus before, I thought I'd be happy with it, but it's just not my cup of tea now at all.

So I'm back browsing the classifieds for a classic Sti. I thought I better try a quote on confused to get a rough ballpark figure before I got ahead of myself, and couldn't believe it when not one single quote appeared on the screen.

I have 4 years no claims, a clean license, and will turn 22 in June...so didn't think it would be too much of a problem now, but obviously I was wrong.

Any 21 year olds with an import Sti here? What are you paying? I'm certainly not prepared to pay in the region of £2000 to insure a car for a year - which some of you seem to be doing.

i feel for you but as the guy above said its the price you pay for driving a group 20 car if i was you i would check the insurane specialist specific for the subaru and i am sure you should get a reasonable quote plus you have to take into account that your under 25 which is one of the insurance companies markers.

hi mate .. there is a way around it, not the best way and people on here will probs attack me for saying it, but i did it when i was 18 and 19 with the sti before i could insure it on my own,

im probably going to get flamed for saying nit but

hey it works!

basically buy your self a nissan micra like i did and insure it with bell insurance.. they have an option at the end to add drive other cars third party extension add this on and take out the premium.

next insure the sti under your dads name or someone elderly in the family.. usually for £600 or so pound with breathing mods declared.. then £200 for your own..

then done.. drive the car..

but beware your going to lose a lot if you crash it!

but i took the risk for a year and it got the police off my backs.. when being pulled as i kept documents with me at all times..

and then after a years experience, specialists can normally help you out such as adrian flux and keith miochaels.. like they did for me

hope that helps

Thanks for taking the time to type all that out eggy790, but I'm not up for doing anything like that. Like to do things properly.

I'm actually thinking now that I'd maybe be best off with a newer Sti, which would be a UK car, and presumably cheaper to insure than an import.

farkin g hell;

they must not like bradford!

just did a quote on a version 5 type r which i plan to get this august.. same ncb as you etc.. previous experience with subarus lol

and they give me this

Your total one off payment price: £4345.35
Or you can spread the cost: £413.68
per month

yeah right.. lol alraeady had a quote for £750 on same address.. and £480 if i stay in Daventry and dont move back to bradford.

autodirect on daventry address give me £1200 so a bit more reasonable but still big difference .. moving 125 miles away reduces your premium by 3 k amazing! lol

Bradford must be one of the worst places for insurance. Even I know that, and I'm Scottish. Lol

I read somewhere that in a certain part of Bradford, 2/3 of the cars on the road are uninsured.

It's definetly going to be a 2002/2003 UK Sti now. Just a case of finding a nice clean unmolested car now, for the right price.

lol yeah they had a big crackdown in bradford 2months ago.. think it were the police interceptor team that came to bradford..

subaru and evo police cars lol they caught a ringer bentley! mate said they found out 60% of cars in bradford were uninsured and 30% had no road tax..

saying all this i only heard about this from a mate, as ive moved out .. but he said they were all over

but stil 4k is shocking! its like the time i was 19 and rang some specialist cant rememebrr which one ,, but he took 20mins asking details and then said it with the most determined voice your premium is 16k how would you like to pay this.. i laughed and said listen dont ever quote someone a price like that again, its not funny, and put fone down..

felt like slapping him lol it was his tone of voice that pissed me off

I'm 28 now with 3 years no claims and 10 years of experience.

I live in an OK postcode and even on my last 96 WRX i was paying about £900! I'm going to try both Kieth Micheals who i was with before and A plan this time around. My 182 only cost me £400 through Halifax.

The UK spec better come out at around £600/£700 or i ain't bothering lol

BD2/3 BD 7/8/9

yes 62% of all drivers have no insurance.

you should drive here- the local yoof think they are driving in a game of grand theft auto for real.

thank god I live in rural bradford and am old
