Default Young-ish driver needing some advice/info please

ello....

Im currently looking into buying a Newage WRX STI UK Type, but insurance companies are being right idiots when quoting me!!

Info

Age - 22
NCB - 3 Years
Convictions / Speeding etc.. - NONE
Insurance Cover - Definately Fully Comp

I thought with me being 21 with 3 years NCB I would be getting some decent quotes.

Ive tried the comparing sites (moneysupermarket.com / confused.com) but the cheapest fully comp im mangaging to get is £2200. Which is alot of money for insurance! I would never consider 3PFT etc.. as the car will be worth well over 10k! plus i know some companies require fully comp when the value of the car is above a certain amount.

Basically its a Noob asking for some advice, am i best to go for specialists, that deal with performance cars etc.. will they be more understanding or will they just rip my eyes out too?

Obviously im going to try - Keithmicheals, a-plan, green flag as they are the most commonly used on here.

Or am i seriously dreaming about getting a Newage WRX STI? unless im willing to pay serious £££ for insurance?

Any advice / info greatly appreciated.

Adz.

doubt a plan and keith michaels will do a quote cos of age, although have a word with gary see what he can swing.

2k is about where i'd expect price tb be considering you age/ncb etc

Gary Moulson from Keith Michaels insurance, posts on here as moley.

He would be a good person to talk to but dont kid yourself into thinking you can get insurance for under a grand.

I would have thought Gary would be your best bet mate.

A lot of insurers decided that you had to be over 25 to get insured on a subaru, so you might find it hard to get people to quote you, keep plugging away.

try www.hertsinsurance.com, they seem to be pretty resonable on quotes, lots of options for young drivers/modded cars etc, worth a go.

What car you got now? most will ask for experience of driving a performance car.

What about getting a standard WRX? That should cut the bills a bit.

Cheers Raulus, will get them a try.

5t, unfortunatley im only driving a 94 Honda Civic 1.5, which indeed is a massive step up.

From a - 1.5 N/A - 140bhp - group 14 - Civic Coupe - Value £1500
To a - 2.0 Turbo - 261bhp - group 20 - Impreza STI - Value £13000

As you can see from the above, slight difference lol

The standard WRX's are only 220 bhp arent they? what other differences? interior down grade? etc....

depends on your previous car too - if it's a big jump insurance companies tend not to want to know much

Spoke to a guy at MCEModifiedcars.com and seemed pritty helpful.....reckons he will be able to beat my cheapest quote (£2200) by a few hundred quid. Even though the original quote they gave me was close to £4k haha

Lets see what he comes up with, also asked for a price on a newage wrx.

Yeah 220 for standard WRX still a massive step for you from the Civic but a chance to learn how the car plays. Plus easily moddable to STi+ performance once you've got the hang of it and got the all important "experience"

good luck.

Hi mate, think your quotes gona be a killer considering your age and the age of the car regardless of who you go to.

im 26 and driving a classic '94 and paying a grand for insurance but then i have got 6 points (had 9) but found the guys a Car insurance quotes online - cheap car insurance quotations from leading UK broker. quite helpfull. give them a call on 08707 709070 as i found doing the net quote anywhere always more expensive.

good luck to you mate

lol just previewed the post and the website address looks already recognised and also someone else put it up already. guess they must be good then!

5t, yeh im considering a WRX, but to be honest, the price differences arent a massive compared to STI's!

fitzscoob, im at work at the min plus im pritty busy, but ive got a massive list of insurance companies to ring at the weekend lol but Gary will be top of my list for sure!!

J_81, thanks for that, i can also try them.

Well ive just had a quick phone call from MCE Modified Cars.com, he said he could beat my lowest quote of £2200 and guess what he did!!

He quoted me £2193 hahahahahahaha a total of £7 cheaper!!!!! wow!!! How generous!!!!

Normally wrx and stis are only a couple of grand difference. WRX will be enough for you to play with for a couple of yrs. Its all depends on the insurance quote for wrx and sti. If the quote is less than half on wrx, u might be better of to WRX for the time being. U'll probably end with a big saving from insurance and car price over 2-3 yrs and then upgrade to sti later!!!
