totally clueless about insurance
Hi Guys
Please be gentle as this is my first post here. Ok maybe best not to come into the insurance part for a first one but hey we all got to start somewhere.
I've been offered a very nice clean Turbo 2000 (un modified) now this would be my first Scoobie and I've been desperately hunting around for insurance. I'm kinda scunnered as everything seems to be against me. I'm 27 but have only had a license for 2 years (since 11/04.... don't go there I never needed a car before but am regretting not getting my license earlier ) with that got 2yrs ncb, no points or that either. Now here is the crunch, if I was living back in Edinburgh it would be easy to get insured but I'm having to live down nr. Slough which isn't exactly an insurance friendly place.
Going through my current insurers Adrian Flux, "HA HA HA no chance" was the reply, apparently they get so much trouble with first time Scoobie drivers they just don't do it. They will however take someone though who has have one for more than a year previously. So off to the usual internet broker type web sites, the best I got was around £1200 from Kwik Fit, yes I know it would kill me if I wanted to modify it but its a price I would be prepared to put up with for a year.
So I came on here and thought lets try A Plan and Greenlight, some specialist insurers. Greenlight were excellent got back to me very quickly .... we can't do turbo insurance for someone who's had a license for less than 3 years but they said try A Plan, so off I toddled. Called them up, yep took all my details "erm.. we can't get a quote just now (fair enough I was asking them for a quote on a second car as well) but we will get back to you." A week went by, I called them again, "Yep got your details here but the guy you were speaking to is on lunch and isn't here, he should have phoned you dunno why he hasn't..... oh still not got a quote. Right I'll get you one and get him to call you". Another week went by, called them again, "Oh I can see you gave us your details via interent but don't have any other details here", after being on hold for a wee while the lad gets back to me. "Erm....... yeah ....... let me take your details and I'll give you a quote now". Gave him my details again and he very quickly came back with his best quote £1600 Oh well bit rich for my blood.
So here is my dilemma do I keep on hunting around trying to beat Kwikfit, do I go with them, or do I scrap the whole scoobie thing for another year. I'll start the ball rolling with either 1 or 2 as I reallllllly want a Scoobie and don't really want to put it off any longer.
Cheers for listening to my late night ravings

Cheers for the replys.
Tescos is comming in at around the £1600 mark. MoneySupermarket.com brought up a few quotes with the cheapest from £1250. I'll try Moley_WRX and see if he can do anything for me

Yep cheers for that tried Confused.com and got a few quotes. Mostly higher than what I've quoted but IIRC it was there that I got the Kwikfit quote from (it was late at night and my memory is bad at the best of times)
Looks like I'm going to be around the £1200-£1300 mark which is a pain in the *** as its at the top end of what I can/want to pay. Will give it another try then might have to hang back till the end of the year
Oh and Moley_WRX cheers for the reply mate
