Well guys, my renewal is due in a few weeks so heres the lowdown so far:

Myself, 28yrs, 9yrs NCB, no points/convictions/claims

My other 1/2, 28yrs, 2 non fault accidents, no points/convictions

MY99 STi5 Type R, scoobysport exhaust, 17" alloys, clear indicators, Cat1 alarm, disklok, parked on driveway

Keith Michaels wont invite a renewal (with Highway) so offered me a policy with Norwich Union £2199

Bell Direct £1470
OPI £no where near

I'll add more as I get them in...so far Bell Direct are in the lead

Question

Dan,

Are you sure about that Barclay's result? (No Jap imports)

I have a MY93 WRX (Jap import) and Barclays were quite happy to quote for it (in fact, they offered the cheapest quote - a touch over £1200). My car is lower spec'd than yours, but it seems strange that they won't quote

Fingers crossed that Tom will come in with a good quote. have been with him for a little while now and is the best by far, certainly customer service is second to none, plus he likes his scoobies!

Must be my date format guys, done all the usual checks and all is ok...

anyway the story so far is that unfortunately I need to buy and use a tracker (not too bad) and a garage (argh) to get around the same £1400 quote from Schofields otherwise its approx £2500 from them.
OPI brokers quote: £no where near
Barclays: No Jap imports

the case continues.....

Dan,
Thats what Barclays told me yesterday, its possible that some companies change their coverage depending on whats hot or not, and I think since the world events lately there have been loads of changes, anyway the story so far:

Keith Michaels £2199
Adrian Flux £2000+
Tesco £1800 or £1357 with no mods (REQUIRES TRACKER)
Privilege £2009
Bell Direct £1470
OPI £no where near
Schofields £2500+
Hill House £2000+
Supercar £2500
Direct Line £2009 (REQUIRES TRACKER)
Performance Ins (known as Mayfair) £2000+
Barclays (NO JAPS)
The AA (NO JAPS)

the fun goes on.......

Dan,

Have a look at this:

Try giving Mike a ring - it also helps if you are in the right sort of business (public service is best)

Good Luck

XRS, I tried Mike at Endsleigh and they wouldnt touch me at all!!

Graham, as for Barclays, the first question I asked was "do you cover Jap imports" and their reply was "NO". I will try again to see if they have changed their minds but thats what they told me on the 5th.

God an excellent quote from Elephant £1164 (£350 XS)

I have 14 days to renewal, and loads more calls to make....

Well the deed is done, Bell Direct at £1470, here is the rest of the worst.....

Ian Fray would not cover, reccomended NU
A1 £2400
A-Plan £1483
Abbey National would not cover
Keith Michaels £2199
Adrian Flux £2000+
Tesco £1800 or £1357 with no mods (REQUIRES TRACKER)
Privilege £2009
Bell Direct £1470
OPI £no where near
Schofields £2500+
Hill House £2000+
Supercar £2500
Direct Line £2009 (REQUIRES TRACKER)
Performance Ins (known as Mayfair) £2000+
Barclays (NO JAPS)
The AA (NO JAPS)
Hyperformance (had to be over 30)
Bennets would not cover reccomended NU
Catterall would not cover
Egger Lawson would not cover
Elstree £1969
Footman James £1916
Jeremy Randall would not cover - needs garage
Crowthorne £2212

There were a few others that I cant remember but Elephant quoted £1164 on a WRX STI car saying "dont worry sir you will be ok it will cover a type R" so when I rang back to confirm with another salesman he was shocked and said the previous bloke was talking b0locks....

life eh ?
merry xmas

Why not try Endsleigh Insurance, I've been with them for nearly 4 years. They always come back with the cheapest renewal, even though I shop around every year. It may be worth a phone call. The Sheffield branches number is 0114 2671114. Good Luck.

You might consider trying NFU they beat the Norwich Union quote who I had been with for a few years by over £300 with a quote of £660.

The NFU by the way stands for National Farmers Union who I think started out insuring farmers for their old Legacies to hack round the country lanes and have branched out to cover anything.

Andy.

Dan, Was the A-Plan you tried the one in Newbury or a local branch?
I use A-Plan in Newbury and no one else comes close. £850 28, STi4, Dorset, 2 claims in 98 on other car, no points.
If you haven't tried 0845 0711234 then do and ask for Lee.
My local A-Plan branches are rubbish for imports....
Rich.

Telf, as I mentioned earlier, I tried Endsleigh but they would not touch me
