I've just had my renewal quote through from AXA for my 95 WRX, they've quoted £1479....

Gulp, I know.. I'm 30 with 2 years NCB, 6points from one SP30 and that's to cover me & my gal. I got a quote from Privilege as some of the other scooby lads mentined them, they said £1142 which was sounding much better.

I then made a wise move and got in touch with Greenlight Insurance (01277 263030) they quoted me £965 with an ICE limit of £500. I'm very happy now and I'm waiting for the quote to arrive in the post, give them a try.

I tried them all, (43yrs old, clean licence full NCD, 93WRX) recently, and they varied from £884 to £695, some refused to quote (all were recommended from the BBS) Greenlight was the best £650/£350 excess, then I thought I'd try my existing insurer, the Co-op. They quoted £620/£200 excess. This was after saying they didn't insure japanese imports, so I've stuck with them. Just had to fit a cat 1.

what ever you do don't go any where near OPI, they left me uninsured through no fault of my own, just there incompetence and mismanagement.
Then had the cheek to ask me for more money. They were one of the cheapest but as the old saying goes "you pay peanuts you get monkeys" and that's what they are CHIMPS !!
you been warned.

The lowest quote I've had so far on a MY95, I'm 21, 3 yrs NCB, no points (yet!) is £1500 FC with Bell Direct (part of Admiral). I'm a girly so it might be slightly different for us, but I've seen BD recommended several times on similar forums, so they might be worth a try.

Cheers

Louisa,

You must be the chosen one, I tried ringing Bell Direct about a dozen times at different times of the day and waited whilst the system processed me and then said.

"All our operators are busy at the moment please call back later"

Have you tried Greenlight ? fill in an online Quote just for curiosity, I'd love to know how they match.

Neil,

This is the response I got from Greenlight:

"Thank you for your request for a quotation. We regret that we have been unable to make an offer on this enquiry (because we are unable to quote the Turbo model for drivers under the age of 23.)"

One insurance company (I think it was AXA) quoted me £23,330!!!

Oh, to be 21

Lou,

Oh to be 21 indeed, I'd love to be that age again but not when it comes to insurance

I can't believe some of the prices these insurance companies are coming up with. I think I'll go into insurance and make a few quid.

So a Scooby Girlie ....

A Scooby girly indeed Neil... although not not quite, haven't bought mine yet, still saving for the insurance (and the rest!)

Drove one once and now I'm in love

Hope to have a MY97/98 in blue in May/June after uni. Can't bloody wait, but for now, I'll keep dreaming, oh, and saving !!

I think I'll have to get in touch with Greenlight and ask for commission.

I'm glad that some of you are getting good quotes, I've spent ages looking around at insurance. I'm very happy & impressed with what Greenlight can do for us Scooby owners.

I phoned Aplan a couple of weeks ago and they said "Ooohhh.... £1500", just goes to show that shopping around is worth it.

I wonder if I can pick up a "P1" for £10,000

Hi Lou

I was at Fleet yesterday with Paul_m and he mentioned you. Nice to meet you.

I am 23 (Doh, now 24 sorry). I tried quite a few and Keith Micheals was the best at £1600 on a 95 WRX, with 2 NCB. I'll get their number for you by tomorrow.

I was with Admiral before this and they quoted mw over £2000 if I remember correctly.

Can't rememmber if i tried Greenlight or not but will do next time.

try going to the HALIFAX web site...there they have a phone number published for anyone looking for car insurance...I've got a MY99 uk with leather,cd,sunroof,cat1 insured for £600,fully protected for myself and partner....easily the best quote I got...but have to admit I didn't try Greenlight....could have been even cheaper if I'd put up my excess....

I tried Greenlight and after spending ages filling out the form thing they replied with " we regret we cannot offer cover as you have no experience of a performance car". I'm currently running a Fiesta si but as I work in the motor trade I've driven allsorts, BMW 840, Legacy turbo, Hyundai coupe, Rover turbo, I wonder if this is worth mentioning? I've also driven a formula first, and a race prepped Mazda RX 7 so I think to say I'm inexperienced is unfair.
Surely the point of NCB is to prove your track record I've got four years but it seems to make less and less difference as time goes by.

Bob,

I'd suggest you give them a ring and ask for a quote rather than using their website for a quote. Sometimes these online quotation engines can give misleading replies, I filled in the website and it didn't ask me what experience I had. Must be an error on their system.

Hi Rikki23,

Nice to meet you too... I hope Paul wasn't too rude about me, it not true, honest!!

I haven't shopped around loads for a quotes, cos as I haven't bought the car yet and also cos premiums change all the time I figured that it was pointless doing too much investigating until I know exactly what I'm insuring.

That would be great if you could let me have that number, I will be pleasantly surprised if anyone can beat £1500 for someone of my age tho, but having said that, laydee drivers are far superior and so I won't be too surprised!!

Cheers

Im 49 5yrs no claim, STI5 with Norwich Union paying £700 which may not be cheapest but includes track day cover. I just phone to tell them when I have a track day and I get full cover with £1000 excess. Great value. If anyone wants to contact the broker, email me.

Just bought a '94 WRX and was preparing for big insurance premiums, but 17-40 Insurance (part of Ensleigh) charge me only an extra £125 to change from a group 12 Primera (which I was payed £650 in Novemeber, at 21 with 3yrs NCB and one SP30). Seemed reasonable to me, only insistance was a CAT 1 or 2 security device (already fitted). I was pleased!

Shame about Greenlight Bob. They quoted me £920 FC for a 94 WRX. 27, 4 NCB, 3 pts SP50, and my postcode comes in for some stick off the insurers even though I live in a nice area

PS You didnt used to work as a Holiday Rep did you? I know a Robert Towell.

17-40 are on 0870 607 1740 and are often average, but very good to haggle with if you push! And just occasionally they are significantly different (this year £200 cheaper!)
