94 "M" WRX, bog standard, parked on drive, cat 1 fitted. Full NCB, protected no claims. 3pts Apr95 (so almost gone)
Just had renewal through, previously with Orion (best last year @ £780). My broker informed me that they (Orion) were not dealing with imports anymore. He claimied only company dealing now was NU (yeah right!) and they quoted - wait for it..... £1330.
No thanks I said, and phoned around:
Privillege - 880, 350xs (a bit pushy to take up the quote though)
Caterralls - told me the don't do imports anymore.
A few others over £1000
Best was:
OPI - 725, 250xs

I got my insurance through Churchill
I have a MY93 WRX. Drive parking, Cat 1, No NCB. I had an accident last year worth 5k + labour. And some assh*le jumped on the roof 1k. I pay £791 with £350 excess.

Markus,
Try A-Plan and ask for Lee or Tim.
I had 2 claims in 2 yrs and got 750 on a '97 STI. Admiral are pants this year!
Also try Footman James, they are the cheapest for me at the moment.
Let us know the figures.

I don't mean to alarm you, but I'm a bit concerned that your insurance is invalid. I work for Churchill and can assure you they do not insure ANY japanese imports. It may be that you've been quoted and insured on a standard UK Turbo. I would advise you to check it out with Churchill's customer service department straight away. Hopefully I'm wrong - or is there another Churchill Insurance Company I don't know about?

Graeme,
If this is true, then why did Churchill pay for the parts I needed shipped over from Japan ?
I told them it was a WRX import. "no problem" was the answer.
I had a big off last summer 5k + labour, then some assh*le jumped on my roof that needed a new roof skin(Again imported from Japan). ?????
Also because I`m not satisfied with the repairs to my car I have been in touch with Churchill and they have been more than helpfull with the situation.
Unfortunately I`m driving a A-Class @ the mo.
It should be back with me tomorrow. But I`m still not convinced it will be acceptable.
The guy from Churchill told me if I`m still not satisfied I can take the car to another garage @ their cost.

Hi Dave
Looks like you've landed a good one there. They definitely shouldn't insure a WRX (I just checked with one of the supervisors)but if they made the mistake in the first place they would honour your policy. I'm not even allowed a scooby sport exhaust on my standard MY97 and I've worked here for 6 years, so I'm a mite jealous!
Graeme
PS The quote of £791 is incredibly cheap as well - I would have expected over £1.5K with 0 NCB.

Graeme,
Yes it does seem cheap. When the renewel come it was for £1468, I questioned this and was told they had not taken into consideration 13k miles per year, CAT1 alarm, drive parking,etc......
Just trying it on(trying 2 recoup the payout ?)
Sounds like I`m VERY fortunate(4 a change)
