Default Insurance question - please help!

Hi guys,

Just wondered if anyone can help.
Is it possible to become the main (only) driver of another family members car (scooby).
I.E, the car is not in my name but i want to insure it and drive it etc?

I was told by sainsburys insurance that i have to be the OWNER to get it insured.
Is this correct and if xo, is it the same with EVERY insurance company?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

That sounds about right....what you might have to do if you can't transfer the car to you, is to ask the owner to put you on there insurance as a named driver.

Unfortunately the car has only just been inherited and is sitting in a garage and not insured.
I rang tesco's to enquire for insurance for us both (me as a named driver) but the NCB for the person who owns the car, is being used on another car so therefore can't be used on the scooby.
I have full NCB but as a named driver wont be able to use it.
Tesco's said that the main driver/owner needs to have at least 2 years NCB to get insured on the car.

Has anybody got any ideas?

Cheers.

Thumbs up

Try Adrian Flux www.adrianflux.co.uk - they seem very good at finding insurance for difficult/complex cases. Not the cheapest for me on the Scoob (~£800 cf £443 NUD), but got Land Rover Disco V8 insured with them ~ £270 cheaper than my renewal quote with NUD (who cover my Scoob!)

Cheers

Mick
