After just renewing my insurance i am very pi**ed off with some of the blatant rip off tactics by insurers regarding minor modifications to a vehicle. Is it possible to complain to the industry watchdog and maybe get our point of veiw heard and hopefully get someone else to agree that £400 a year for a set of wheels and £250 a year for a different back box is a complete Pi88
take!
Anybody out there share this veiw or have an address we could write too?

An underwriter has the right to charge what they see fit for mods. baased on their own experience. You pays your money and takes your choice! There are other insurers out there that won't charge these sorts of premiums for mods.
The address though is -

Ive got the same problem, spent all this morining geting quotes for my ibiza 20vt which completely standard bar a milltek s/s cat back exhaust im 23 and quotes arnt to bad around £580 but you mention the exhaust and they either wont insure me or raise the total to around £800-900
directline was a reasonible £470 online but you cant list mods rang em up and they wont cover mods for under 25's ???
thing is unless you really new your cars you couldnt tell the differnce from standard its tempting no to tell them but you know if they find out its just excuse no to payout ......my search continues.............

Yeah all very well if u r over 25!
But i am not. L&V won't insure me.
Infact i have the sum total of 3 insurance companies that will insure me
Tesco, Egg, Barclaycard.
All underwritten by the same company funnily enough, UK insurance Ltd. But they r still thieving scumm who think they can charge anything they like. I don't mind paying out something extra for insurance on mods as long as it is resonable and in line with what you are doing. There has got to be some sort of guide lines for the charges that insurance companies make cos what they are doing at the moment is beyond taking the pi88.
