Just spoke to Liverpool Victoria to make sure I am still covered for track days and they say yes, but there is a clause in the policy called "Duty of care". This means that I have a duty to take care of the car and myself which is fair enough, but it could be used against me on a track day if the underwriters deemed that I had over driven the car which led to an accident or injury to myself or the car. So if you drive hard and have an accident you could be facing problems with the insurance. I asked for confirmation in writing that track days were covered and they said that this was not necessary as the policy book does not exclude track days just competition, racing and time trials.

I am happy with what they have said but just wanted to let people know about the "Duty of care" clause regarding track days.

Are they saying that if the cause of the accident is down to irresponsible driving then they wouldn't pay out ? I can't see how this could work, you could be driving fast down a country lane and write off your car which is far more likely a scenario than doing any damage at a trackday

ShinyAndy,

You have a duty to take care of the car and yourself, if you are driving without due care and smash her up and they can prove that, then they must have a case for not paying out, IMO.

Couldn't get it recorded but basically as long as the events are non-competitive then I am 100% covered. He spoke to the underwriter and they even mentioned to him that they recently had a £14K claim from a client that was on a French trackday and they had paid out.

He (the underwriter) did say though that everyones policy is likely to be different and that if in doubt you should ring to check if you are covered or not

Phew !

Thumbs up

I agree that everyone should check with their insurance companies and not just take it that, because someone else is covered they will be. I am confident that I am covered for track days with LV and as I drive with 'care' then I should not have any problems if I have to make a claim.
