Just renewed mine. Best deal was through A-Plan, import specialists. Call 0845 071 1234
They don't require a Tracker either.

Thumbs up

mark@wrx

Cheers for that info m8

Best quote buy over £300 so far

Oh, and I tried Liv Vic again, again was told they don't insure any JDM Sti's anymore
I even got them to check with a supervisor who confirmed the policy had changed on imports in the last few weeks or so.

Ringing round a few places, so far only found Privilege will quote me
Liverpool Vic say they have recently changed their policy and don't insure imports, same with Greenlight and Elephant.

The downside to Privilege is if the car hasn't got a tracker they will insure fully comp but should the car get stolen you don't get a penny, how they get away with that I don't know

Is there any alternative to Privilege?

Question

mega_stream,

i'm puzzled - i just (Friday 1st) took out insurance on my Jap WRX with Liv Vic! A-plan, were competetive @ only £2 more, but the monthly payment plan would have ended up costing me more than Liv Vic's. perhaps worth giving them another try!

Kevin,
I went to get a quote from Liv Vic this morning but for imports they said they only had type R listed and therefore couldnt insure my 4 door STI. Go figure!!

Alex.

Alex,

That is very strange. To me, an import is an import! Why they differentiate to the point of insuring one and not the other is a complete mystery to me. Apparently they are keen on age (I'm 30) - could that have been the issue?

My car is modded both mechanically, cosmetically and includes some performance upgrades. So what's the difference between my car and yours? Surely that's all subaru did when they made the STi!

You have my sympathies. Hopefully you'll get a decent quote somewhere, although L&V do seem to be quite competetive.

Try elephant again. Some staff there excellent, some not very knowledgeable.
First person I asked said no problem, quote was £715 for a 1999 WRX Import fully comp protected no claims. When I rang to accept was told "we don't insure imports".
They checked and the first person was right and I took up the quote.

Oh well, I'll try LV again I spose, although I don't think I'm gonna get a better price than i've been quoted..

Its really frustrating trying to explain what the car is when the person on the phone is saying, "we have all the models of Subaru's ever made, the only 2 door one is a P1, are you sure its not a P1"

Must be hard for them though I guess as they are only reading whats on the screen I

Exclamation

Tried again this morning. The do not insure STi Type R cars. Period.

The guy said anyone that has a Type R that is insured with Liverpool Vic isn't properly covered as they only insure the standard, non Type R or RA's import Sti's.

One to watch out for if you think you have your type R insured with Liverpool Vic then me thinks

Hi Kevin,
Yeah, I agree with you, an import is an import + they do seem to be getting somewhat silly on the age thing I feel (I'm 26) but when the guy on the phone @ LV is trying to insist that I actually own a 'Turbo2000awd' then I feel they aren't the insurers for me!

Am gonna stay with Privilege. They've put my premium up at every renewal but a moaning phonecall for some reason has mysteriously brought it back down again each time! £1200. London postcode + slightly modded. Just about bearable!

Cheers.

M-S

I've had my sti 5 Type-r insured fully comp with A-Plan for a couple of years now(1st year £780, this year £795)and i've been very happy with level of service etc.

Also when I phoned them to tell them I was fitting full system,AP 6-Pots and Morrette lights they told me there wouldn't be any extra charge and yes they confirmed this in writing.

Thats interesting what you say about LV, cos when I was looking they actually only Had the Type R and NOT the 4 dr sti on their list.

I got them to check too!, and they requoted me a type r when I actually bought one.

have you tried Bell Direct. I used to be with Adrian Flux, but they bumped up the renewal. What about Egg....they keep writing to me telling how they will beat any price quoted...we'll see!!!

I'm also with A-Plan.

Import WRX with cosmetic and performance mods.

Myself and Wife, both 29, for £910

Telephoned about 40 companies getting replies like: no more than 3 modifications, you need to be 30, we don't do imports (these were companies who advertised they did!).

Yes it did cost over a tenner to ring all these companies, but saved me £80 off my renewal.

Fred Roberts also gave a good quote 0191 5650222.

Best of Luck

A-plan £950 for my 99 STi5 RA V-limited.

That's only £200 more than I was paying for MY99 uk car with Norwich Union

Thanks again to the man that gave me that number
