Group 17 or 20?
#1
After speaking to several insurance companies this evening, a couple tell me that a new MY2002 WRX UK Spec is group 20 insurance.
My MY98 Turbo has always been group 17.
Is it correct that the new model has lept to a higher grouping?
Cheers, Mike.

Yes this is correct mate. The new wrx is group 20. With ourselves it is also no under 25's £400 vehicle xs and must have cat1 security.

Thanks Mako for clarifying that.
Maybe you can help here:
It's funny, I've been with your company (Norwich Union Direct) for the last year....£780 on a MY98 Turbo.
When I asked about switching insurance to my new car which arrives next week...a UK spec WRX 2002 parallel import from Belgium (with certificate of conformity for UK) the person refused to even give a quote saying, "we won't cover that car".
I've not made a claim in over 6 years...have 4 points on my licence from 1999 and its been over 14 years since I was 25!
Can you offer me a quote?
Cheers, Mike.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread here but I could do with picking Mako`s brain for some insurance info. What I was wondering is how long will the points I have on my license have an effect on my premium. I think that you’ve got to declare them for 5 years, but will it have an effect on my premium for all this time?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Blairc, yes we do ask for any convictions in the last 5 years but to be honest if they were incurred over two years ago they won't really affect your premium. Of course this does depend on what conviction you have. DD10 and you're knackered!! Insurance companies really don't like them. If it's a speeding sp30,sp50.sp60 then you're only looking at a 5% loading. All companies give their execs 10% discount to use on each quote so it's worth haggling.
I can tell you all the secrets as I'm leaving my Insurance job tomorrow to go work for Subaru dreams do come true;D

A CD10 can hike your premium up a bit. You could be looking at a 25% loading. Phone round it's worth a shot trying a few companies.
Remember that most companies will give their sales people 10% discount to use on new business so it might not have to be too painful.
Hope this helps
