Default standard HU swap for pioneer app radio

ok guys what exactly will i need to swap the standard Hu in my 01 bug eye for a pioneer app radio, i popped the surround off the standard and was expecting to see a cage which would need keys to release but its a screw in affair. is there a conversion kit? and can someone point me in the direction of a gps antenna fitting guide? i.e. where is best. OR should i try and find a fitter who knows what he's doing? bear in mind i'm at least an hour's drive from a fast food outlet never mind an ICE specialist.

Hi mate

I fitted the app radio in mine and I am not the best with wiring.. First of all I swapped the original cage and screwed it in to the app radio this should then bolt into the original brackets... As for the wiring I ran my mic behind the dash and up the A pillar. Very easy to fit yourself, I also ran a relay switch and deleted the handbrake option.. Hope this helps you a little

I ran the ipod lead through the centre console which allows me to plug it in and sit it in the centre cubby. Just need to drill a small hole to thread the cable through. The antenna cable I thread through the bulk head existing hole then sat it under the wiper skuttle panel...

All in. Did you have setup trouble? I had to update firmware so it doesn't reject my iPhone but it still won't play apps and makes a crappy sound as soon as iPhone is connected. Any ideas?

Had no issues at all mate, have you downloaded the pioneer apps etc? If I remeber right once I got it started up it just took me through the functions and was quite easy to set up.. Is the sound your hearing because it's charging your phone?

This is an interesting read as im looking at doing the same. may I ask if what block adapter you went for to fit the pioneer to the standard wiring harness.

thanks in advance
