2003 STI headunit & speaker upgrade
Hi guys,
Having just purchased my dream Scooby, I want to set about improving the sound system! I have had a look about the forum but can't seem to find really what I need to know!
Firstly, what is a recommended double din head unit these days? There seems to be so many around, but so few with DAB / SAT NAV (are these extras worth the extra money?)
Secondly I'm pretty sure that either a speakers blown or there is just not very good sound. Either way I'd want to change the front door speakers. I keep reading about Infinitys 6000cs but have these been superseded / is there a better alternative?
All advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yeah I have a pioneer avic unit dvd cd ipod bluetooth job with morel 6.5 dotech ovation components front and morel tempo components rear run off a vibe 800 watt amp and it is chrystal clear not too bright but crisp and loud. It all depends on what you are looking for use some of the car audio places to get an idea.
I would recomend sound deadning as a must.
hope you get it sorted :-)

I was in the same situation as yourself a couple of years ago when I got my Blob. The audio wasn't to good, bad clarity and distortion were the order of the day.
I'm no audiophile, but I did find the entertainment not very entertaining! :-)
I firstly changed the fronts for 6" comp Slicks (using Corsa spacers) and 4" co-axial Vibe Slicks for the back.
I then set up my old Sony Explode sub in the boot, drawing the sounds from the rear speakers and the 9 volt switch hard wired from the cig lighter, I used a switch witch I located by the hand brake so that I had the option of having the sub on or off.
I was then going to change the head unit, but after living with the new set up for a week or two, I decided to keep the oem as it sounded so much better with the speaker upgrade.
This also kept the centre consul looking neat and OEM.... And of course helped me divert my cash in a different direction.

Thanks for all the replies! I went with a pioneer X3500dab and bought a dab aerial for it too, just gotta get around to fitting it this weekend hopefully. I'm not sure how difficult it will be!

Just an update, all fitted up and working perfectly. Just gotta choose some speakers and I'm all set! Thanks for all advice!
On a side note, anyone know how difficult a cambelt is to do? I was told it was done, but have no paperwork to prove it! :S

Stupid question - where can I get the Corsa spacers to fit 6" speakers? Anyone got a link/ref number etc? Cheers (Updating OEM speakers with Vibe Black Air in 2007 Wagon).
