Ok I am running an Alpine MRVT757 (Bridged) into a single Rockford Fosgate FRP1410 in an Auto Accoustics sub box, the prob is that the RF cannot deal with the power coming from the amp, I am looking for some advice on a decent sub that will provide punchy clear bass....
Thinking of the Alpine SWR1040 / Rockford Fosgate RFD2210 / JL JL10W6
Any experiences of any of these?
Cheers

Infinity - Lol forgot about the Scoby Sticks hehe.
Not a great fan of Infinity stuff (No offence cos of your username ) - Had some Kappas about 18 months ago, cost me £300 and thought they were severly pony.
Heard some Jl's the other week was quite impressed by them but a little too 'deep' for my liking.

What about a Kicker Solobaric then? I believe the alpine swr subs run in a very small space not sure if they are 2 ohm or not. Are You worried about boot space? Are you looking for spl or audiophile?

Infinity,
Just want some nice sounds, decent quality, have a good setup as it is, but not looking to get 135db at my local halfords carpark of an evening if you know what i mean
Leon,
Was thinking anything up to £250, unsure as may end up with another sub box in there at some stage, when Auto Accoustics pull their finger out and I can have the passenger sided box too
Hmmm Focal, forgot about them

Gordon,
Do you have any Diamond Audo's at that place you work at?
Also the DDW-F30A is still nearly £400 'IF' you still can get it, I think it's just special order now? Plus if I intend to run two of them thats £800 just on subs!! maybe a little too much!

Sadly Toby we don't stock Diamond Audio and £800.00 for a pair of 12's is a lorra dosh.
Why are you agains't Infinity subs? I have a pair of 10's and i reckon they beat JL hands down on sound quality.
IMO JL's sound too loose.

Gordon,
Damn
I've had Infinity before and was not that impressed with it, maybe I could hear yours sometime? Thats of course if you take the car to work
Problem is as you know, every audio shop is different in what they reckon, theres a couple local I am sure you know who, but they all recommend different things, they are bound to I suppose depending who they are tied in with but it's a nightmare to find someone who has a decent demo car as well to hear what they have got....

I know what you mean.
I very rarely take my car to work but i could do one saturday.
It's not a scoob so it won't give you a terribly good idea of what my setup would sound like in one but your welcome to have a listen if you want to.

It's up to you m8, if you want to bring the car to work, if not I totally understand!
May have to pop to 001 Mobile? I think they are JL Dealers, don't know who deals with Infinity in the area.
Sounds a little dense but I have no idea what Auto Accoustics reckon is a good sub for their box!!!

001 stock some very nice gear inc. JL.
I listened to one of thier guys cars not long ago, he was running a pair of JL 10" subs.
Again i didn't like the sound, too much rumble and not enough punch but thats just my opinion.
Whether all JL subs sound like that or i've just heard them installed and setup to sound like that, i don't know but i'm a fussy git.
It maybe worthwhile called auto acoustics.

Gordon,
went to 001 on sat, very impressed, excellent attitude in there, had a listed to their 145db Mondingo ST24 demo car omfg was it loud or what lol!!
Listened to the Infinity Kappa Reference Sub 10", also the DLR 10" and the Focal 10", but was blown away by the JL W3? 12" - so bought one
Their attitude in there was superb, took the above subs each one they fitted to a box and we listened to it in my car, then decided which sounded best, took nearly 2 hours to decide, not bad service I thought for a mere £175 of business!! lol

IO think JL are trading off a reputation they used to have which is no longer deserved.
I agree that they sound loose.
I would go for a nice pair of 8s that can still drop but punch so much more.
Am a fan of Phase linear, but I like to consider the little know brands, such as the hyper cast from petras. The paper cones make them kick so much harder than any other material, that I am convinced these are still my favourites.

Hello TBMeech, How are the scooby Sticks coming along?
Have you considered the Infinity Perfect 10.1. I am running a Kappa 12", and if the Perfect throws around more air than this it is bound to be punchy. Or What about a square Kicker Isobaric 10". I believe they do a 2ohm version, which would pull a bit more power out of your Alpine amp (Is it 2ohm stable?).
Infinity.
Edited as I got the name of the amp wrong
