Try one in a MY01+, it wont't fit correctly without mods because the fascia surrounding the head unit aperture does not allow enough room to clip on the plastic trim around the head unit, i have tried along with 3 car hi-fi fitters in the end the fascia needed cutting..

Can anyone give me any advice please about changing the double din head unit in my 2001 UK300. I have a Kenward Mask unit to fit, but no one seems to do the facia panels to cover the space left. I also want to replace the front speakers. Any suggestions on what I should go for that will fit straight in.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Steven

Cool

Steven, Kenwood Mask units are bigger than standard Din so are not easy to fit properly without modifying the surround in the dash. I fitted one originally in my MY01 WRX but eventually got
fed up with the look so changed to an Alpine head unit and 6 disk changer. Speaker wise i have chaned mine for JL AUDIO XR component speakers, they don't fit straight in but together with Dyna-matting the doors the sound is now vastly improved. Tweeters in the doors are disconnected and replaced with new ones mounted in the footwells as shown in the attached picture.

I just bought the space saver from Subaru, only about £15. Not getting my car for a couple of weeks so I dont know how it looks installed. Its a cupboard type unit and it seems fine.

i have to disagree about the mask being bigger than a standard din. i've changed a few head units in cars for these and all have fitted in with out the need for modifying any of the surrounds

sorry thought you ment overall size yes your correct it's the same size as a standard unit with out the trim but if i remember correctly it's screwed to the brackets so why cant you just make new holes in the brackets and let the unit go back further in to the dash. it's an idea i've playing with but havn't had the chance to try it out yet.

Thanks for the advice. After seeing PCB's pics, I do like the idea of a silver head unit. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for a new unit, unless there are any other suggestions without modification.

I changed (well DrEvil changed) the double DIN Kenwood OEM system for a nice Alpine MD head unit.

It fitted fine to the cage, the only thing that was done to the stereo was to unclip the plastic surround on the head unit.

I drove around with duct tape covering the hold until I could get hold of the storage bin thing.
