Normal advice is to put a reasonable amount on the outer skin directly behind the speaker, and then to put "an amount" on the outer skin in the middle of the panel. Though it's not necessary to do the entire outer door skin, if you've taken most of the door mech off to gain access, doing the lot is one way of ensuring you don't need to tear it down again in future.
Inner door skin is full of voids. Advice to me was to bridge the voids to reduce backwash and improve tightness. If I had to do it again, I'd use plasticard or waterproof ply or similar as a stiffener bridging any large voids.
Plenty of examples on talkaudio forums.
