Default Which front speakers fit a hawkeye

I want to change the front paper speakers in my hawkeye for something a little bit better, nothing fancy, but something that can handle a bit of bass or can be turned up without distorting.

Problem is I don't know what size or type of speaker to go for.

Budget is £150 so could someone recommend something from these guys please as to what will fit straight into my doorcards.

I think your's is the same size as my blobeye. 17cm/6.5'' will fit behind the door cards with spacers from a corsa 3 or some MDF ones that you knock up. I got some Vibe SE-K60's last week, i'd love to say they sound sound great but they're still in their box. Tweeters should fit in the door position too unless you want them on show!

Ok. Thanks for that.
Where did you get the Corsa 3 spacers from?

Got the spacers from halfords, they usually have them in stock. Cost about £15 i think.

Can I ask a couple of related questions...

1) Why do you need the spacers?

2) If you fit tweeters - I take it they go in the fake speaker spot at the door handles and is there already a plug on the wiring loom available for them or do you need to run a cable from the new head unit?

I'm guessing spacers are needed because the uprated speakers the magnets on the back are twice the size of the standard speakers (usually paper cones) therefore you need the spacer to make them fit else the magnet will either be touching the door panel or not fitting at all.

Also it'll help a better fixing and cause less vibration

The holes in the doors also do not fit standard pattern speakers that well - you might be able to fit shallow mount uprated speakers without the spacers (my CTS speakers have front mounted magnets but still needed spacers).

You should have tweeters already fitted - my suggestion would be to take the feed to the main speaker, lengthen the wire, feed this to the crossover then run wires again to the main speaker and the tweeters from the kit.

Correct. The standard speakers are as shallow as a china saucer so you need the spacer in order to avoid the window tw*ting the new much deeper speaker

I dont know if you've seen, but car audio security now do Focals for jap cars, which look like they fit straight in without the need for a spacer??? maybe someone can correct me if im wrong.

slightly above your budget at £199 but then you would save on not buying a spacer and Focals have got rave reviews

I've just fitted these and these in my doors. For the fronts I needed to make spacers from 18mm MDF, but the backs fitted straight on, although I needed to remove the old white screw-hole inserts and make new screw holes to attach the speakers to the doors. They fit behind the door cards perfectly - even the fronts, which sit a long way in front of the door skin now. I have a hawkeye, but I think the doors are pretty much identical. Good luck fella.

AUTOLEADS SAK 2820 are the speaker adaptors you need for front speakers on hawkeye, blobeye, bugeye. They are on Ebay, and cost around £8 plus postage.

Hope this clarifies the confusion.

think u better check that mate as the hawkeye is different to the others

,i tried to fit the above speaker adaptors and they only line up on one hole,u will need to drill the door to fit the others and that also came from the guys i argued with originally,(soundmaster uk)

they said thats the only one they can get and agreed it dont fit unless they drill the door, which i didnt want to do , thats why i went down the route of my adaptors from my link,

if u read on other speaker posts most tell u the same thing but have heard that corsa speaker adaptors will fit ??

Hi Tom,

Sorry, my mistake, I was thinking 13cm speakers for the front with the Autoleads adaptors!

I believe from the late blobeye onwards, from 6.5 speakers (17cm) should be a straight fit, depending on the speaker make. Well, I'm about to buy some 17cm's Fli or Edge speakers for my front doors, (not buying adaptors), already bought 13cm Edge speakers for my rear doors.

Thanks, Greg
