Kenwood KRC778 CRAP radio reception
#1
Just had an amplified bee-sting aerial fitted to try to improve radio reception - it really is that crap. Anyway, it seems to have improved slightly, but it's still pretty ropey - loses signal very easily and lots of squelching noises.
Does anyone else have this radio and also finds radio reception crap, or have I got a fault with the head unit.
Cheers for any help - otherwise I might just have to buy a new head unit!

Cheers for all the replies guys!
Well I've now put the original radio back in and together with the amplified bee sting aerial the radio reception is great - so it looks like it's the head unit at fault.
Question is, are all Kenwood head unit tuners fairly pants, or have I got a dud one. Replies pls - what Kenwood model have you, and is radio reception ok. Typically the set is out of warranty by about 2 months, but as I've got a CD changer, I want to replace with another Kenwood if poss.
Cheers

Hi there,
got a KRC 656 with 10 disc changer... totlly sh*te radio reception... dunno what to do about it really.
I think there might be an ariel/head unit matching/impeadence/gain thing going on , but I can't figure it out.
I think it might be a weak part of the kenwood performance, but then I read somewhere on here a litle while ago about crap radio reception but I cant remeber what else came out of the thread.
cheers

Cheers for the replies. Unfortunately as mine's out of warranty it's probably not worth getting it repaired - will probably replace it with an MP3 CD head unit - Kenwood have some good looking new ones due out in the next 3 weeks. Was surprised to see Road Radio selling MP6090 for £229 - seemed a good price!
Mikey - not sure about the aerial impedance matching - the reception seemed only marginally better with the bee sting aerial than with the original Subaru one - can't imagine it would be the same mismatch with both. Also, radio seemed to tune well when stationary, but couldn't hang on to the signal when moving. Dunno really...
