Default Rainbow speakers

Anyone got these components? What do you think? Which ones would be suitable for a bugeye?

Hi there, i have the SLX265 in my blob, IMHO they are excellent speakers, they only just fit, but it's worth it.

Where are you looking to buy them from ?

Thanks Matt - haven't looked at suppliers yet, just heard that these are good speakers to upgrade from the standard ones. I'll have a look at those SLX265

Rainbows have a very good reputation. This is a very good place to buy them from, probably the best online.

Car Audio Direct for car stereo, navigation and audiovisual electronics.

And here is a great forum, scoobynet for car stereos:

Just replaced a set of Rainbow CMX265 Components with a pair of Focal 165VRS slim fit, The Focals do seem to have the edge when it comes to clarity and sound reproduction.

The Rainbows were also a tight fit either with the electric window or the door card where as the Focals only need a 12mm spacer and they are in. They also seem to handle the power very well also.

rainbows very efficent good clean sound sort of european very tight, focal very distinctive and good in the upper midbass, due to the amount of travel being shallow fit,not enough travel for lower bass. bostons (deep fitting speaker)warm detailed referance point speaker mellow very flexable due to the crossovers. originally about 1200 retail, but once genesis absolute were released most retailers reduced their prices even though they have a price tag of 2.5k you can get boston z for about 550 at the moment or cheaper due to them releasing a new range.

What size (model number would be even more useful!) would be recommended for a 2001 bug then? Is there a 'how to' or a knowledge base thread which shows how to replace oem front speakers with these?

fair comment but has anyone listened to the z or spz they are used by most car audio journalist use these as point of referance.

The main point is it is all down to what music you like and how you like your sound no one can tell you what to purchase go and listen to all speakers in your range of budget. Just keep in mind when you listen to them in the shop you are listening to speakers in enclosures.
It also depends which amplifier headunit and eq if you are going this far.
the main point is down to placing of the speakers try to keep your tweeters as close to the woofer as possible. and if you can mount the speakers on axis. you can make great speakers sound crap. the genesis speakers can sound awful if positioned and set up wrong.

You should take a look at CDT speakers, i fitted a set of rainbow comps in my mates escort cosworth and wasn't very impressed with the sound or the build quality of them but then i also fitted a set of CDT's in my brothers bmw and i was shocked at how well they sounded quality was amazing so clear at any volume.
