Alpine 7618R Problem

Ive just wired in an Alpine 7618R head unit and when i put the ignition on the unit beeped and now wont comeon. Is it locked out or have i wired it up incorrecly? Hope you can help soon!

Hullo!

If you're using the standard ISO connectors the Alpine comes on, the likely problem is that the switched and permanent +12v wires are backwards. For some reason, Alpine have seen fit to wire up most of their older head units like this.

Check the voltages on the red and yellow wires in the car. I'll bet my status as "someone who knows something" that you'll find they're backwards to what the Alpine's expecting

If this is the case, and your wiring loom (on the stereo bit) has bullet connectors on the red/yellow wires, you can switch them. If not, then you can remove the wires from the ISO connector using a small screwdriver to flatten off the connector pins.

Good grief! I can now confirm I know stuff!

Glad it's sorted - nice choice of stereo - loved the ambient-sound compensation on the 7618 and 7638's. Fantastic invention!
