Default setting up an amp !

Hey ! just got a Rocky Fosgate 4 channel amp with front Kenny componants , some sony speakers and a 1000 watt alpine sub. usually been pretty good at setting this sorta stuff up but been lookin at stuff on net and they reckon its best to set all levels on head unit unit and amp to flat (bass treble etc) and crank up till slightly distorts then lower until it doesnt then start adjusting the amp, but if u set the bass / treble on head unit until distortion and then set after , it will throw it out again surely ? i though set all speaker up on head unit 1st then adjust amp gains accordingly !! ?? hmmm does any of that make sense ? ha ha oh the amp is powering the componants and sub and head unit just runnin the back sonys

i alway set the amp up as that is where you get the most adjustment. then fine tune it from the head unit. i think that answers it

Personally, I set all my head unit settings to max, then played with the amp, then turned the HU down to the desired level.

At least that way if you do need to crank up any of the settings, you know your amp will happily play it with out the distortion or clipping.
