Alpine 7998r
I have a Apline 7998r headunit in my Scooby which was installed as a part of a professional ICE install...
I wanted to install a screen for SAT Nav, as the Tom Tom is just doing my head in...(Only had it a week)
Alpine has suggested i get rid of the Headunit...bing 5 years old and got for a Alpine IVA-W205r, also a new model is being released soon IVA-W505....
ALPINE IVA-W205R
Any thoughts?
Sam

I nearly bought a W202r which is similar, really nice unit and the touchscreen on it is great. I ended up going for a 9887r instead though.
You need to buy the sat nav separately for it W205r, but it does have cool dock functionality for the Alpine Blackbird. Going to be a lot of money all in though...
It depends what you are after, as the 7998r is legendary for sound quality and I don't think the new unit will measure up on that front. However, if your speakers and amp are not a similar standard then it won't matter too much.
So, for looks and nice functionality go for the new one, if it was me I would be tempted to stick with the TomTom for a while and see if it grows on you - I use it on my PDA in the car and must admit it does me fine.
