Default Damsel needing speaker help please!

Hiya Guys...

Can anyone help with i should be looking at getting 6 or 6.5" comps for front doors of WRX 2002 sportswagon. I know i am going to need to make MDF baffles??

Also i am looking at either the infinity ref or kappa front comps, any reccomendations?

I am going to run them off a 4 channel amp along with a sub. I am thinking of getting the JBL GTA-12 sub?

Any help or alternative suggestions... I am new to all this and just want some good sounds.
I have just installed a new HU, Pioneer p9800BT.

Cheers, Laura

Sounds like you have it covered with that lot. Either 6 or 6.5 will fit, just cut the MDF to the right size. Don't forget some dynamat for the doors.

I'd go for the 6.5" ers as it gives you a bit more flexibility in driver choice, I would consider having a listen to DLS, and Alpine kit in the Infinity price range.

Also, what sort of music do you listen to and how do you like your music, slightly mellow or a little "in yer face"?

The JBL is a good Sub for the money but the box you put it in will make a large difference to any Sub. How do you feel about plywood DIY?

Agreeing with Gary on the deadening, not necessarily Dynamat wholly, use for sealing the inner skin of the door and perhaps look at using a sludge for the outer skin, it's generally a bit easier to apply through access holes

edit- was that a query on MDF baffle? If yes then basically a ring/hoop made out of mdf.

The internal diameter should be slightly larger than the widest part of the midrange drivers "basket". The external diameter should be equal or greater than the external diameter of the driver but not so large that when placed between the driver and the door skin it interferes with any shaped steel or the door card(should go flat on the door skin all the way around). Made perfectly adequately with a reasonable jigsaw, ideally a router and Jig.

well worth sortinng the dynamat when the door cards are off for the speakers! i vowed to come back to mine rather than doing it all at once, but it took some time and as i like my reggae/ska, i suffered from a lot of vibration until the dynamat was fitted

I used Infinity Ref in mine and they sound good, I used Vauxhall corsa spacers with a little trimming here and there. I also used a sh#tload of dynamat as the panels on the scoob are dead thin. Can recommend Infinity Ref though.
