6x9's in a classic parcel shelf

You don't HAVE to remove the rear shelf, but it certainly makes life easier, especially if you know HOW to remove it;(
To remove shelf: first remove rear seat base by undoing the two bolts on the bulkhead just in front of the base. Lift the seat base and unhook it from the back. Take it out of the car.
Now undo the three bolts along the bottom of the seat back. Lift the seat back to unhook it from the rear bulkhead, and lift it out of the car.
Behind it is either a support bar, which unbolts, or the mechanism for the seat to fold in the centre for feed through. Any covers etc just unclip.
Remove rear speakers by unbolting. Remember to unhook wiring too.
The parcel shelf comes out by inserting your hand under it and around the speaker holes to free off the dreaded clips, IIRC about three each side, then pull it towards the front of the car. You MAY have to run a sharp blade around it as the sealant stuff that seals the rear screen tends to stick it in place along the back. Mine just pulled out with a bit of force;(
Now unbolt the metal plates which held the speakers in place, and converted the holes to round.
Oh, forgot to say, if it's a car with rear washwipe you'll have to remove those bits too before removing the parcel shelf, as the wiper mech feeds through it. Undo rear wiper blade nut, and remove blade. Prise up cover, and undo large nut under it. prise off the grey cover inside the car. Pull off the hose for the washer and the wiring clip. Working under rear panel, undo the three bolts securing the wiper mech to the bulkhead and lift it away.
SOME speakers need part of the metal parcel shelf cut away, almost all will need holes drilled. It CAN be done from inside the boot but parcel shelf removal makes it sooooooooooo much easier.
My 6x9's are fitted onto home made 18mm mdf spacers so I didn't have to cut any metal away. The spacers are covered with proper stuff from an ICE dealer, and the whole lot bolts through the parcel shelf using 40mm stainless M4 Allen-headed, (socket-headed) bolts with the sockets in the speaker grille.
HTH, Alcazar. It almost takes longer to type than to do

It's amazing how stuff just disappears, isn't it?
When I replaced my old rear brakes with Brembos, I lost one of the triangular spacers that holds the rear handbrake shoes in place.
I'd been working on a cleared, swept area of concrete outside my garage. It just disappeared off the face of the planet The stupid thing never turned up and I had to buy another
