The Philips autochanger in my Impreza Turbo is prone to distorted sound, usually when the car hits a bump or goes round a left hand bend. It stays distorted or goes onto one or two speakers for some time, then rectifies itself. The car's just out of warranty and I'm not inclined to pay much to have the thing fixed. Does anyone know if the changers are repairable? I can't find anyone in the North East that will look at it.

Cheers

Cool

Cd Changers can be repaired and if you take it to a decent dealer they should look at it for you. However normal charge is £35 just to look at it then you could be looking at an average £100 - £150 repair bill. If you have no luck let me know as i can sort you out a new changer or complete package from as little as £210.
Hope you get it sorted

Bit closer than nottingham - but not much - is a repair shop in Leeds. As Craig says, getting them to look at it is a fixed charge, plus parts on top and any extra labour.

I'd be tempted to use this as an excuse to upgrade. Craig may well be worth a try, or the perennial

Thumbs up

Hi

Thanks to both of you for your advice.

I just wish I'd kept the Panasonic CD changer fitted to my 1st Turbo back in April '94, and bought a P/sonic head unit for the current car.

I should've known the Philips kit would be rubbish. I had 14 replacement Philips cassette decks in a 205 GTI I had in 1984/85 - all under warranty... I only kept the car 10 months.
