I have just received a set of Infinity 655cs speakers, the dealer told me that these are the best speakers for the MY02 WRX - will they fit, or should I have got the 605cs ??

You should be able to get them to fit, but 605CS will be better. Look back for an earlier thread on this. 605CS screw straight in with the supplied adaptor ring.

hi edward. the 655cs should be fine in your car. the only difference that i know of between the 655cs and the 605cs is the 655cs's mid/bass driver has a slightly different basket with 3 mounting holes and the 605cs have 4 mounting holes. the 605cs are better suited to the impreza as the factory speakers have 4 mounting holes but-
offer the 655cs mid/bass driver up against the door mounting to see if it will fit. you will probably need to drill new fixing holes into the plastic ring but that shouldn't be a problem.
it's a good idea to use some sound deadening material stuck to the inside of the door skin to help loose some road noise. the key to good installation is preperation. don't rush..

The Impreza factory speakers have three mounting holes. There has been much confusion before about fitting 605CS to an Impreza. You need to find the adaptor ring in the bottom of the packet to change the four holes to three to go into an Impreza factory spacer.
Also note that the 655CS has a slightly lower power rating and low frequency extension. 85WRMS (225 pk) vs 90WRMS (270 pk), 60 vs 54Hz. http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/focus.php3?partno=605cs vs http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/focus.php3?partno=655cs I suspect you wouldn't tell any difference in real life though.
