Default ipod head unit

can anyone reccomend me a head unit that i can plug an ipod into. i dont really like the sound of the fm signal things so is it just a case of plugging a lead into the front of the head unit or is it in the back?
i dont want to spend a fortune maybe 150 or less if poss.
If it is just connected via a lead does that mean you have a big trailing wire and a loose ipod or do they have some kind of cradle?
cheers

The Alpine units ending in an 'i' are direct iPod connection. CDE-9850Ri is the cheapest that has this facility. It will charge the Ipod, you just need to place the cable somewhere so you can plug and unplug your iPod when you want.

Andy.

DVA-9861Ri, IVA-W200Ri are lots more. Apart from those you are back to using the KCA-420i interface box which isn't full speed connection.

The DVA-9861Ri will play DVD's thru an external monitor, hence DVA in the model number. Plus you can add a CD changer which the CDE can't.

Dension (Dension Audio Systems) do an IceLink kit that plugs into the CD changer slot of most head units including the standard Subaru job. £99 should get you the adaptor plus £30 or so for a mounting bracket. Dead easy to fit, takes about 30 minutes to fit on a New Age WRX.

A few people have fitted this one.....

You'll need the Forester pocket - but the Ipod can go in it........

I got an Alpine 9850 which would have been great, but only 2 pre- outs.

Now got a 9855R and Ipod Adapter.
