Default STi/WR1 Interior sound level reduction

I tested several Imprezas including unmodified WRX, STi & WR1 with a view to buying but the noise levels for rear seat passengers is a bit too high, although ok in the front seats. Tyre noise not too bad running on PZeros but too much booming/resonance from exhaust for long journeys.

Has anyone experience in Noisekiller soundproofing and how efffective it is?

The guy at Noisekiller tells me you may be able to help.

I've got a Noisekiller kit in my MY00. It makes bugger all difference.

Mine is fitted with a Prodrive backbox - a noisier car might benefit more but I would be surprised if the difference would be that significant even then.

Ever just tried fitting a baffle/silencer in the end of the tail pipe for long journeys?

I have e-dead in my car it makes little diffence, but is great for improving stereo sound and dampening vibration.

Although it relates to a Forester my post over on NASIOC may be of interest:

Bottom line - the exhaust drone comes in the air vents in the back. They are effectively open to the outside, and the one on the exhaust side is right next to the backbox. Try wadding some towels or something into that vent space to see if it makes a difference.

Very interesting post ricardo. I'll have a look on my car to see if I have such a vent.

I would imagine that going for a quieter tyre would have as much, if not more, effect on road noise than any sound deadening. I've recently removed my 17" P-zeros and refitted th oe 16" wheels which are fitted with Michelin Pilot Premacy tyres (the wife is using it at the moment!). Road noise has reduced significantly.
I remember changing from Pilot Premacy to Pilot Sport 2s on our Saab a couple of years ago and experiencing a similar improvement in noise and ride quality. Unfortunately Pilot Sport 2s aren't available in any size that can go on a Classic.
