Default headunit wont fit

Hi,

I was going to fit my alpine headunit that ive had lying about the other day. I stripped the centre console and offered the unit up for fitting. It fits fine in the metal bracket but its too wide for the plastic console surround...

Is this normal? Whats the remedy?

Cars a MY00.

Also, whats the best way of wiring in the headunit and amp power cables? Where to? ~Both need fused. Do i need an inline for each or is there spare slots in the car?

You dont need to fit the plastic clip on surround to the alpine, remove this and the stereo should fit just fine.

You need to fit the headunit into the metal bracket and secure inplace. Then you fit the plastic part of the dash, the headunit does not need to fit as it is behind the gap.

Hope this helps.

You'll need to run power cables for the amp direct to the battery. I've got a distribution block behind the rear seat (back part) with heavy duty power cable running direct to the battery which is fused next to the battery. The distribution block allows me to connect 2 amps and various other things easily without the worry of shorting out as it has a plastic cover. Should be able to get all the bits you need and advice as to how to run your cables from any decent dealer.

Exclamation !!!

You need to fuse the amp as close to the batt as poss. ie within 6" of cable.
This minimises the amount of unfused cable rubbing on hot bits and setting fire to your car!

So the amp always has power going to it??? There's no on/off switch for it. 300/2 jl amp. Got a 30amp inline fuse. Would that be fine or would a 15-20amp be more suitable?

Take it the wiring for the power to headunit should be in the dash already? Fused?

The amp should only have power when it is switched using the blue wire from the head unit.

Ah, gotcha. With regards to the headunit, even with the unit surround off, there's still clearance issues for the face sitting flush with the console surround...
