I want an MP3 player for my MY01, but I dont like the look of a single DIN unit plus the subaru 'tray' that fits underneath.

The Kenwood MP6060 gets good reviews, but from what Ive seen, these mask units dont fit well into the MY01 dash. I like the look of the new JVC, but that is single DIN also.

Searching the Web I came across the Kenwood DPX8020MD, which is a double din silver CD/MD/MP3 player which looks the bo110x! and exactly what I want. Only trouble is is that its only available in the far east/oz.

Not being an ICE buff, if I could find a reliable site to buy one from, would it be OK to fit in my car, or do they have different types of power / connectors etc

some info on this unit is at: http://www.geocities.com/hongkongcarstuff/kenwood.html

Its also on http://www.kenwood.com.au/car3.asp?gid=1&cid=24&pid=265

Any (simple) advise greatfully received

Thumbs up

Looks superb.

The good news is the connectors, etc, should be the same and if not it's all fairly easy to fudge.

The bad news concerns the radio: if it's a japanese unit, it doesn't have the same range (88-105MHz) for the FM frequencies as us, though it may be possible to shift it.

Suggest mailing kenwood UK and telling them that there's significant interest... ?

Re: importing to Cyprus. I really don't know, check with your local customs and excise people. My guess would be yes, you will have to pay tax and possibly import duty too.

In the UK, you will have to pay tax at 17.5% and an import duty on top of tax which can be around 4% for electronics.

Thanks for the reply Chiark,
Have looked on the Kenwood UK site and cant find an email address, so I cant even contact them.
If the FM band is the wrong frequency it sounds like too much trouble. I guess Ill have to keep my eyes peeled for any more UK developments.

Thanks for youe help again.

Mark

Thanks for the details. Had an email back from Kenwood saying they have no plans to bring double din units like these to the UK as they have no security features such as face off.
Looks like Ill have to wait until someone else does. At least they gave me a prompt reply,

i have a jap alpine unit thats d/din in my MY01, it had to have a thingy fitted due to the FM stuff being different over here- still doesnt work as good as a normal radio though and if i was bothered about listening to the radio i'd avoid an imported one on this basis.

also has no security stuff which would put some people of the japanese stuff (but i wasnt bothered about security myself)
