655 speakers
#1
i have just been to halfords (i admit it) and seen the 605's with the seperate tweeters but next to them were some 655's for half the price and with tweeter built in.
this would be great on my96 turbo 2000 as my doors dont have the tweeter part in them.
i just wondered if anyone had fitted these and if they go straight in as they are only £69 and a bit more practical.
cheerz for any replies.

Don't know if they fit, but a problem with coax's in std Scooby location is that the tweeter points at your calf and doesn't tend to sound very good. I originally fitted coax and later went for components in MY00 - albeit the tweeters have a location ready for them to be mounted on a bed of duck tape!

Worth comparing the size with the 605's they have. 605s come with a ring which converts the 90 degree spacing of the screw holes to 120 degree and allows you to fit them into the plastic scooby spacer. Also consider mounting depth - from the screw to the back of the magnet - 605 are 59.5mm IIRC. Anything below 64mm SHOULD go in easily.

thanks for the reply, i understand about the tweeter location but i have some pretty high end speakers in the back so i would be ok in that respect.
anyone else know if these will fit????

If they're anything like the 65.3's I just put in, you won't be able to install them without a spacer. The depth may be fine but the speaker's chassis diameter is just too big for the hole, leaving a 15mm gap between the door and the housing. Measure the hole's diameter and check it with the box (Infinity put the dimensions on the outside of the boxes).

High end speakers in the back with inadequately positioned front tweeters could make the staging worse. Would be lovely to throw them straight in and that is what I went for too, but having been there I would strongly consider putting components in. Also consider the better outboard crossovers with most components - better slope and the woofer actually has a Low pass on it. It really is worth it.

ok, by the sounds of things, it looks like it is worth the hastle
of paying more and finding a home for the tweeters. i didnt want to buy any of them without finding out first, thats why i asked,
so the 605's will go straight into my 96 turbo 2000?.
well it looks like you have made my mind up.
thanks for all the help.

I believe the woofer will go straight in. The tweeter you will have to think about. You may struggle to still get 605CS as apparently they are being stopped but without an obvious replacement so if you are going to do it do it quick.

Also worth noting that these speakers are not mega sensitive and sound best with an amplifier - even one that costs the same as the speakers could give eight times more genuine power than even the best headunits which can result in almost double the volume.
