Display on Sony XR-C7220R control unit

Help!!
The display on my control unit seems to have packed up. Its now very faint - virtually unreadable - and totally useless at night.
Any ideas anyone? Could be simple (bulb?) or is it likely more serious??
Any (sensible :rolleyes suggestions gratefully received.
Hugh
PS Have tried cleaning the contacts but no joy.

Hi Hugh,
Is it a faceoff unit? If so, try cleaning the contacts again with something like alcohol. It fixed my old unit... To eliminate this, try pressing the faceplate in various places and seeing if you get a better display.
Failing that, I'd guess that it may be the backlight for the LCD. Normally these are an integral part of the LCD and can't be changed. My little knowledge of this stuff tells me that they're quite fragile and may be damaged by being dropped.
I'd hike it down to a car audio shop and get them to have a look at it. Find out if they have an in-house repairer or whether they just send it to someone else first, as you may be able to find the "someone else" in the yellow pages direct and save some cash for the same service.
Nick.
