I have just received my my01 WRX - what a **** radio / cd player.
Do I get the alternative 2 din Sony or Clarion system as offered by Suburu? (I prefer the Clarion, has any one else purchased and if so how much and from where?)
Is there any other realistic options, I do not want to spend more than £500?
How easy is it to remove the current my01 radio / cd player?

The worst thing about the new MY01 double din std affair is that it WILL NOT control a multi changer !!!

You have to fit one of the accessory ones instead.

You could also fit a standard single din unit (fit what you like then) and have a handy, pocket sized storage bin blanker!

 

Fit a single din. the lower spec cars have an odment bin i think so you could buy the bit of plastic!

 

i gather subaru want £400+ for the double din replacement- surley it cannt be worth that?
i was planning on swapping it with a normal size unit and a spare hole unless someone suggests otherwise

I am also looking at changing the radio/cd when my MY01 WRX arrives in a couple of months, and I have to say that the Blaupunkt system looks superb. Five CD autochanger instead of single slot CD gets my vote any day. Only problem is that it only backlights in blue or red (It's aimed at VW's & Audi's). But It's good that it's in silver it should match the dashboard nicely.

I won't be looking at the clarion, I've got one fitted to my mazda and it's continually locking up. In fact Mazda switched to sony units 6 months after I bought my car.

BTW are you also looking at changing the speakers or are the standard ones OK ?
