I've just bought a MY97 5dr which came with the what I suppose is the original stereo - Subaru badged Philips with 6 CD changer uner the passenger seat. OH MY GOD - I have never heard such an appauling setup - even my 11 year old Puegeot 309 oem radio sounds better!

I would like to use a Pioneer KEH9700 head unit + 6CD + DAB which I have from a previous car and I like the sound of Kenwood speakers so I was thinking of fitting:

Pioneer KEH9700 head unit + 6CD changer + DAB
Kenwood KFC-PSR70P's in the front
Kenwood KFC-PSR700's in the back
Kenwood KFC-WS253 sub in a 17l box in the boot
Kenwood KAC-PS501F 4 channel amp to dirve the front and rear speakers from the line out on the head unit
Kenwood KAC-819 mono amp to drive the sub from the sub line out on the head unit

Having read some of the postings here, I know that everyone seems to be a salesman for Infinity products but does anyone have any experience of Kenwood in a 5dr?

What about mounting positions? I was thinkling of the main amp under the passenger seat, the sub amp under the driver seat and the changer vertically against the driver side rear suspension turret.

Finally, has anyone had any experience of the sound deadening kits from BJ Acoustics £200 seems quite high, particularly as my car already has DynaMat liberally plastered all over the boot floor, but I am getting a really annoying booming from the Scoobysport exhaust and wonder if the kit would cure it?

Any comments/advice greatfully received.

Tom

I quite like the Kenwood speakers, for my sins. They're not bad, competetively priced for what you get, and benign to drive. They're not even overly bright, which is the curse of many a brand.

I used the old 205 woofer in quite a few cars - it will fit pretty much anywhere. Your 70 series is slightly bigger, but will fit in the doors without too much hassle.

By the way, do you want to buy some Infinity 605s?

Nick.

Cool

Kenwood PSR700 and PS70P are both very respectable. I like Kenwood amps - have an 848 driving my *cough* Infinity fronts.

OK - what is it with Infinity - why is everyone raving about them over any other brand?

I don't actually have infinity in my car, but they are a good brand, excellent value for money, readily available, reliable and work well in most cars. They are perhaps a little bright, but this can be tamed by turning down the tweeter output on the crossover.

I have found that many of today's speaker manufacturers produce overly bright, metallic sounding products. This produces a tiring sound when listening to music and a sibilant quality to speach radio.

The same problem seems to affect the other end of the sound range with many set-ups that I have heard having a totally uncontrolled and overly pronounced bass.
