Default Pimp my Sounds!

Ok, the new car is on it's way, a MY06 STi. This time around i'd like to get some decent speakers and stuff fitted.

The head unit is most likely going to be a Pioneer head unit, the DEH-P70 BT. I like the idea of having a Bluetooth unit that will just work with my phone, so there's no hassle of fitting a hands free unit for the phone I also like the idea of having the ability to play CD/CDRW/MP3's & WMA's.

So what else would you peeps advise I have fitted. bear in mind that i'm useless at stripping speakers out and fitting this kinda kit myself, so optionally would it be better to just drive in to a car audio specialist and get them to do the honours?

I'm not into base heavy tunes, so a base speaker fitted would be a waste, I'm also not sure that a seperate amplifier would be required I just want a nice,. clean and decent sound

So just take an additional 6.5 front system in charge for the original. Some damping in the door and it´s done...

put some good quality kit in the front on an amp and add a small sub, it makes more difference than you realise, they are not just for bass heads. if you choose the correct kit it will all sound awesome

If your car is an import then spend a decent amount of money on sound damping. For some reason the imports have less damping that the uk cars.

Front: 6.5 inch components
Rear: 6.5 inch co-ax
Sub: depends on what you listen to but 10's are good for dance and are generally a good all round performer. 12's are good for D&B 15's are good for Rap. The slower the music the bigger the sub.

Amp. 2x 50-75w rms for the front 2x30-50w rms for the rear
Subs are a bit more flexible but some need alot of power to make them perform. Alpine type-r's are an example of this. Generally 150-200w rms per sub is a good level.

Default Amps and crossovers

So you are suggesting 2 amps for the door speakers rather than one 4 channel amp?

A quick question... where would you suggest locating the cross overs? Is there any gap between the door card and the inside door skin?

You dont have to get 2 amps but i would personally go that way. A 4x50w amp will do the job if you would prefer to go that way.

I wouldnt ever put crossovers in the door as they dont particularly like the damp enviroment. It takes a bit more wirinig but i would mount them up behind the dash and run new wires into the door. The subaru's are pretty easy for running wires into the door so it isn't as hard as it looks.

BTW: A subwoofer is a must. Even if you dont like heavy bass, a sub will make the sound more complete. A single 10 will do the job nicely and it wont take up a huge amount of boot space.

So I ended up going for Alpine CDA-9853R (this will power my Blaupunkt Velocity replacements for the rear doors) & KCA-420i with an Alpine MRV-T320 to power front components.

Next question is which speakers should I plumb for to put in the doors? I have £200ish. Any ideas? Genesis P16/A16, PHOENIX-GOLD-ZR6.5COMP (£99!), Focal 165v2, Rainbow, Infinity Kappa/Perfect 6.1 components , Kicker, JL Audio etc.

So much choice.

Can anyone advise which setup might work for me for listening to Prodigy, Metallica, Indie rock etc.

I've got Phoenix Gold's 6.5 front and Co-ax 5's in the rear, sound great with the sort of music you have indicated.

I have an 05 Sti, very happy the car but the audio supplied in Australia is pretty average. Like most people I am looking around to upgrade but probably have a more limited choice of components unless I buy of the web. Looks like an Alpine 9855 with ipod adaptor to replace the Panasonic double Din currently in the car up front so I will need a new mount for the updated head unit.

Speakers are a very personal choice, I listen to pretty varied music so would be looking for some good all round front, rears and a small sub/tube in the boot. Suggestions welcome, especially from other Australian residents!

Vibe CBR 12 ACTIVE is a good sub. I ran it off a similar Alpine HU and means you can use the other amp to power all your other speakers

I'm thinking about on of those, do they come with a microphone or do you have to shout at the phone?

UPDATE ... This has just answered the question - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/3453.html
