Can anybody tell me if an Alpine head unit will simply slot into the Impreza 99my?

Yes I can.

Oh and yes it will. The alpines come with a metal surround thingy (i guess all head units do!) which fits into the DIN slot into which you place your head unit.

I have a 1505R..see
