Hi
I am currently running a 18" 800w rms and kenwood 7"10 (rear) infinity 6.5" kappa (front) the whole system is being driven by a cheap but surprisingly good jenson four channel amp.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what amp would be man enough to drive my Sub??
It sounds great at the moment but the amp loses control when pushed and i feel it is definatly a bit stressed but would do a great job of running the 7"10" and 6.5" speakers. so i want to add another amp to run the 18" something with plenty of ***** and control.
cheers

I don't know if you guys have them over there but I would go with a rockford fosgate punch 500, is your sub a dual voice coil?

Take a look at Genesis amps. You would be able to drive your whole system from one, and wont be dissappointed.

I bought a SoundStream reference 604 from Craga on Ebay for around 200 quid, all in and delivered.

He has a large stock of factory reconditioned units, and I'd recommend him.

what sub is it?
what box is it in eg sealed or ported?
what impedance and how many voice coils?

Getting an amp that can put out a true (and clean) 800w RMS is probably going to be a little above your price range, though!

Also, its worth remembering that to double the audio output an amplifier has to have TEN times as much output eg to get twice as loud as a 250w amp you need a 2.5kW amp (not a 500w amp!)

I'd second chiark's comment about getting cheap amps from Craig though

An MTX 500d would run it.What brand of sub is it? I have a pair of Realistic 18"s that only handle 100 watts rms each and the pair in a hatchback is awsome to say the least.
I'm planning a system much like yours.I do suggest a class d amp for the subs. They're great.Much more efficiant than a class a/b.The 500d is capable of near 1000 watts x 1 at a 2 ohm load and 14.4 volts input. But that depends on your sub...

I don't know the cuurency there,quid,pounds or whatever,so I don't know what he means by 400.
The MTX 500d can be had for around 250 dollars and the 1000d for around 400 dollars.
Also there's the JBL Power Series. The BP 600.1 would do nicley for around 300 dollars.
The RF 500a2 isn't a good amp for that speaker, and it's way over priced. The RF bd1000 would work but is high priced too.
The Sound Stream would work, but it may not hold up,like it didn't before it was rebuilt.Bad series.
There are too many options to list here. The few I've listed will serve you well.
Just my opinion.

I have just been looking at the rockford fostgate punch range of amp's and they do look the buisness was this the model mentioned? Rockford Fosgate® Punch Power BD1000a1 it says it is rated @ 1000watts rms but does not state what ohm load that is into. the best price so far that i have been able to find is 495 dollars is this good?

Kenwood do a monster amp purely for driving subs. P.S I'm using it and I is well impressed. It's the KAC-PS401M. For about £275 its good value. Only comes as mono but thats all you need for bass It's 1200 watts fully adjustable with motorised sliding cover to cover controls and when the amp gets hot the cover slides back and turns on a cooling fan. I've bridged mine to run 600 watts per channel to run 2x1000 watts 12" subs

Duncan, that's a pretty good price.Have you priced the MTX?
The RF Power bd1000.1 is stable to 2 ohms. It's rated for 1000 watts rms x 1 at 2 ohms, measured at 13.8 volts. They don't list the dynamic power ratings because they don't have one, like my USAcoustics 1000F,it puts out 1000 wattsx1 at 4 ohms, period.Regardless of input voltage.
The MTX is also rated for 1000 watts x 1 at 2 ohms rms,at 12.5 volts. If you feed it 14.4 volts,it can produce around 1600 to 1700 watts, for less than the RF.
They both are good amps so I can't put the RF down.If you can afford either of these, you'll be all set for sub power for a while.Just remember that you'd be giving it an 8ohm load so output will be less than stated, but it will still blur your vision.Heheh.

I don't know what USB319 means, but for about 100 dollars more you could have the 1000d.
If you have problems getting this stuff, let me know. You should be able to send the money to them, have them ship it to my adress and I'll ship it to you.
I know that's a huge leap of faith for you,but I don't need an amp,nor do I know anyone that does.I think John Banks will vouch for me.I did the same for him.I feel for you lads being so restricted in your options.
Let me know what you can get,and can you convert it to US dollars for me?I don't have a clue.
