Question MY04 HU removal.... that simple?

Morning All

After reading the ICE FAQ's and various other threads, I thought I'd have a go at changing my HU.

The only issue I've got (which I can't find in an FAQ) is something I've read in an SIDC magazine from last year. The article was entitled 'Changing an MY03 head unit' by 'Mother Theresa.

The article is good and the swap seems pretty straight forward... until I read the bit about the block (not sure which one) not having connections for 'Always on', 'Dimmer' and 'Phone Mute', and the fact these wires need to be spaded up and connected into the ISO plug.

Have I read wrong? or is some extra electrical work needed?

If I missed it in an FAQ... please point me at it

Thanks. J.

just replaced my headunit and have had no problems, bought a wiring harness adaptor from my local ICE dealer and the dimmer works & it saves all the settings but i don't know about the phone mute as i don't use it.

Had only 1 problem with my wiring and that was dodgy radio reception. Turned out my stereo didn't have an output to that wire, so I just tapped the wire into the switched 12v line as someone here suggested and it then worked fine.

That was on an 05

Thanks guys

After looking around the BBS again... I've bitten the bullet and ordered the stuff today Nothing too flash as I've got a budget to stick too

Alpine 9847R, PC2-44-4 Harness Adaptor and the Forester 'Flap' Pocket. Got the lot for a total of £189.04.

Hope to fit it on Sat/Sun if it all turns up on time.

99% finished install....

Sound is so much better than the standard HU, and show the standard speakers up a treat. (Speakers next on the shopping list)

Very easy to install (thanks to FAQ and Ru's guides) and the pocket looks fantastic. The most difficult thing I had to do was..... Rescue a screw I'd dropped down below the heater controls!

Just got to get an aerial adaptor and it'll be 100% finished
