Default Alpine HU 'Dimmer' Connection?

I've wired up 'everything' on my 9812 head unit, however it has a 'dimmer' lead to connect "to the instrument cluster illumination lead". The manual says "this will enable the vehicle's dimmer control to dim the backlighting of the unit".

As my WRX only has a 'dim' switch (which I never use) do you think I can use this input to dim the HU when the headlights are on (i.e. at night)?

I haven't played about with it yet - has anyone connected this lead, and if so where?

Apparently there are pins in the subaru HU connector block which provide 'Radio Illumination +' and 'Radio Illumination -' - any use?

Cheers,

Ru'

If you know which ones are Radio Ill. + and Radio Ill. - then try connecting to one of those ( i assume +) then turn the lights on and off (with the ignition on), if the HU dims then hey presto. I connected mine to the illumination circuit for the cigarette lighter, works perfectly.

Cool, thanks for the info; from Alpine's description, I didn't know if they needed it connected to a dimming circuit (i.e. 12V adjustable downwards as the 'dimmer' is increased), and that giving it a straight 12V feed wouldn't make it dim at all.

If you simply want the display to dim when side/head lights are selected, the connect the amber 'dimmer' lead to the green supply to the cig lighter light. the display dims when 12v is supplied to the amber 'dimmer' lead.

I guess you have already sorted it, but just to say this worked on mine!

Cheers for the info. I've not got it sorted yet; I'm fed up of removing the fascia around the HU etc., after all my (wasted) efforts trying to get a line-in on the original unit. I may have a go this weekend though.

'Computer says no....'

Manual says you need the DAB Receiver Box TUA-T100DAB (separately sold).
