I've got a MY94 WRX and was intending to fid my trusty Pioneer 6 CD and pull out to it. However on inspection the current fitted stereo (AddZest?!) is smaller the the standard size of my Pioneer. As is the surrounding console. Do the UK cars have a bigger aperture to fit the standard units (180 x 50mm) or do all the Scubbies only take the smaller stereos? (annoying as there's nothing wrong with my Pioneer)

I don't know if the 94 model is different to my 98 WRX, but I've got a Pioneer 8400 and a DEQ-9200 in those slots. It was a tight squeeze, but the actual unit fits in, you just can't put the plastic surround in front of the cradle on. It is a bit fiddly though I must admit!

I collected my WRX last saturday evening and got up early sunday to fit my poineer head unit - to my shock I could get the 'cage' that holds the pioneer in the the existing metal brakets ! so I didn't bother with the
pioneer cage as the head unit its snugly into the existing mounting with a significant, but constant amount of pressure.
That was 7am Sunday, and here we are 2 days &
300 miles later & its not moved - yet.
I'm not sure how easy it will be to get it out though !
Good luck Jonatha

Unfortunately I have to use the Pioneer cage as the head unit is an old-style pull-out with built in connectors on the bottom of the cage (as opposed to just having a 1/4 depth cage fitting at the front.

Nightmare..I have got a pioneer head unit for sale, that is only 2 years old & works with the P series 6 disk changer..I might also be convinced to sell the changer as well, as I haven't fitted it to my WRX yet
(I was going to use it with my new CD head unit but might not bother now) Email me on
JWBTCC@AOL.COM for more info (to keep it off the BBS)
Cheers Jonathan

The Alpine unit I bought did have instructions on how to fit to "Japanese" cars..basically involved removing some of the front plate, sliding it back into the slot and refitting the plates.
