Question

Just fitted my old sony multichanger and removed the horrible philips unit.

What is the black cable that connects to the back of the unit. Is it an earth or something. It has AMP on it so i presume it is an earth for an amp.

Now that my sony unit is fitted i have just left this cable off. Will it make any difference

I'd guess that it's the power control for external devices such as amplifiers, ariels, etc...

If you don't use it, make sure that it can't touch any metal bits - just wrap it in insulating tape.

Its a female lug type connection. Fits onto the frame of the philips unit
