Default Alpine headunit internal fan switchable ?

I recently put a Alpine CDA 9831R headunit in my WRX.
One time when i wanted to switch the radio off and i accidently pressed pause/play button at the same time with the source/power button. (both at the left top corner)
To my surprise the message "fan on" appeared in the screen, doing the same thing again it said "fan off".
I also thought i heard the internal fan of the headunit switching on and off.
In the manual i couldn't find anything about this.
Does anybody else noticed this and is the fan switchable ?
And should it be on or off ? When it is switched off won't the headunit overheat ? (I think mine was switched off in the default setting)

It works !! No idea why it is there though, I would have thought the fan would come on automatically when needed anyway ?

Cheers

Mailed Alpine for an answer since my dealer couldnt tell me either.
Got a really quick reply :

"This is an engineering feature, only used to test the fan circuits. not
a user feature....

The fan is thermo controlled and only comes on in very hot climates.

Ross Gardiner .......... Technical Support "

So pressing the two buttons doesnt do anything.
